What a ride...

When this book was 3 (or 4?) separate books, it was rated quite high. I bought this book based on those reviews. I'm glad I did! The story was so intense and kept me on the edge of my (car) seat. I have a long commute but when listening to this book, I found I was looking forward to bad traffic. This excellent story was very well researched.

Military romance

They met in the military, married during the war, and returned home together. However, when her husband returned he was a changed man. A darkness had rooted deep inside of him. Something he brought back from Fallujah, maybe? Had it been there all along? All Greysen knew was she loved her husband and was willing to make whatever sacrifices necessary to bring back the man she married.
He jumped into the military after 911 while she was born into a military family. He was a military surgeon while she was a military therapist. Together they helped soldiers rebuild themselves after the war tore them apart.

Overall:
A marriage built on forgiveness and unconditional love were the only two things glueing them together. Built around a military setting Caden and Greysen invested both of there time on active duty and civilian life. They had an intense sexual chemistry. When Ms. Reiss broached the topic of sex she certainly edged the darkness with some kink.
I recommend investing in the entire series referred to as Girl on the Edge. It includes all four books: On the Edge, Broken Edge, Over the Edge and Rough Edge. This box set is smokin’ hot.
I’ve come to expect the graphically sexual nature of CD Reiss’s books. This one didn’t disappoint with its explicitly sexual and erotic nature. It was tasteful.
The many layers built around the military, the sex, and the Blackwater assignment gave this story that dark edge. It most definitely is a seductive book. Reading they way these two characters grew was impressive. It was
intense, raw and honest.
CD Reiss wrote a smart believable story. There was a healthy balance between the sex and the military life. While this has a military theme the concept went in a different direction taking with it the after affects of serving in a brutal and violent war.

Narrators:
Joe Arden performed the voice of Caden. Maxine Mitchell performed the voice of Greysen. Together they gave an exceptional Duet performance. This was an abridged audiobook. I wish this had been an unabridged copy. Trying to follow along when scenes were omitted and out of place was frustrating. I love following along with my ebook it really brings the story and the characters to life.
Both narrators read the scenes and words with the perfect pitch, sound, and tone. I believed in both performances. They both enhanced my audiobook experience.
Joe Arden is a well known male audiobook performer. He’s known for his romance and erotic performances. He’s been described as sensual, sexy, and hot. He gave a powerful and intense performance. I felt the emotional turmoil in Caden’s characters voice. The tone and pitch was ideal for each situation. He really understood Caden’s character and the depth of his pain.

Maxine Mitchell is a well known female audiobook performer. This is not the first nor the last audiobook where they perform together. It seems to be quite common for narrators to team up together performing as a duet or duel performance in romance books. She performed Greyson’s scenes with grace, intelligence, and sensuality.
This ones a long one it’s 18 hours. I listened at 1.9x the speed. The sound quality was crystal clear.

Interesting story

The story is more unconventional and is more original in many ways. In the beginning I was wondering how some of the violence fit in, but as the story unfolded it did serve a larger purpose. Joe Arden's performance was Amazing. There are several parts where you just FEEL. He wasn't reading the book to you... he was in it. I'm not normally a fan of Maxine Mitchell but I felt that this story really fit her style and where I usually find her style distracting, in this book it helped set the tone of the story.

Brilliant Thriller

GOTE is an insane suspense/thriller/romance. A wild ride that really requires you to be in the right mind frame in order to process what is happening as some of the changes literally happen in the blink of an eye.

Greysen comes from a long line of military members. She planned on honoring her family tradition and making the military a career until she meets Caden. Caden received a direct commission as a doctor and joined the army under privilege, knowing that as soon as his ‘debt’ was paid, he would go back to civilian life as a surgeon.

Now how to tell you about this story, without spoiling is pretty difficult.

Greysen will follow Caden home to New York, both leaving military life behind. He is a cardiac surgeon, she is a psychiatrist. They go about their new routines, their jobs, hanging with friends. The changes are so subtle that Greysen thinks Caden is just readjusting to finally having his wife home. Their marriage is great. They’re happy and their sex life is even better. Sure he’s a little rougher than before, but much to Greysen’s surprise she loves Caden’s domineering demeanor in the bedroom. But it doesn’t take long for Greysen to realize that her husband isn’t quite the same and she begins to feel he may be suffering from PTSD. He is after all a surgeon who, under medication and psychiatric monitoring, remained awake for eight days while tending to those wounded on the front line. Surely no one walks away from the horrors of war unscathed. Right?

Narration is performed in duet. I believe this was Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell's first duet and their performances are EPIC. Maxine has the perfect amount of emotion to draw you in from the beginning that as the story begins to escalate, Maxine is right there maintaining the cadence and emotion needed to convey what Greysen's feeling and going through as she does everything she can to help her husband.

Joe Arden. WOW! Joe is outstanding in delivering the changes his character goes through. And let me tell you, the end of chapter 63 and ALL OF chapter 64 were pearl-clutching moments as Joe delivered his best performance EVER. I literally held my hand to my throat in a holy crap kind of response. I was so enthralled by his acting in this moment, in this scene. When he screams, when he cries out, and when he cries, you feel it. YOU. FEEL. IT. This entire scene with Maxine and Joe will stay with you and will not be easily forgotten. It is now my litmus for all things Emotional Joe.

Rough Start, But FANTASTIC BOOK!!

Wow. At first I couldn't get into this book, it jumped all over the place and it was really hard to understand and keep straight. But I'm no quitter!!! I'm so happy that I finished it. This story is about Kadean and Grayson, who are suffering from post-war ptsd/personality splitting disorder. It really tells a fantastic story of the trials these 2 had to go through after serving in a war, and being in a clinical trial for a govt research program for ptsd patients. Plus, the narration from Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell was PHENOMENAL!! If you love Joe Arden (like I do ;)) you will LOVEEE this side of him, he is a darker Joe! Definitely recommend the Audiobook for this one, it really brings it life!!

Magnificent story and narration

This book is one of the best books I’ve ever listened to. It’s going to stay with me for awhile. CD Reiss did an amazing job writing this intense, raw, smoking hot story. It’s different from what I usually go for. At the very center this is an unconditional love story. With it’s dark themes of PTSD, military service, experimental military drugs... also edged in all that darkness is some smoking hot and explicit sexual encounters. The twists in this story will keep you in the edge of your seat, and you will find it hard to get anything else accomplished, you just want to keep listening to this well researched and original story. Amazing CD!
As for the narration, WOW. Joe Arden gave his best performance ever that I’ve listened to! His raw emotions in a particular chapter drew me in with him. He was not just reading the story to me, I was right there with him, experiencing it too. Give him all the awards! Maxine Mitchell was so perfect in this book. She made me feel all the emotions, frustrations, and anger right with her. Her male voice is so on point. I absolutely love these two narrators together, they are flawless in this book. I can’t imagine the emotions they went through to get this story out. This book definitely caught me off guard in the best possible way, and I can’t recommend it enough. A MUST listen!!

Garbage!!

Kept waiting for the "love" story ...never happened. Constant sadism and masochism. Intelligent Drs. ? Finally gave up. Don't care what happened to either one. Sorry two good narrators wasted their talents.

Strange

I appreciate the abilities of CD Reiss, but this book was odd for me. I purchased thinking it was a romance novel and it isn't. It's more like a psychological military mystery with some sex scenes. The story seemed drawn out a bit much and I struggled to finish this one. The narration actually kept me listening...Great Job !
