Publisher's summary

He gave up his daughter years ago, but now he'll risk his life to save hers.

Alex Mercer is no stranger to kidnappings. The emotional scars still run deep from his sister's disappearance years earlier. His daughter Ariana remains safe long after her adoption, and he cherishes the few times a year he gets to see her. The joy is palpable when he takes her on their first one-on-one outing. At least until he pauses to answer a text and Ariana disappears....

Wracked with guilt and determined to find answers, Alex teams up with an unlikely ally at the police department. As the clues reveal a pattern of missing girls, the kidnapping case becomes a race against time to save Ariana. What cost is Alex willing to pay to keep his daughter alive?

5 stars!!

What a surprise! It's an emotional roller coaster and scary because it could happen to anyone in no moment you don't feel what the characters are feeling

Looking forward to get other books by Stacy Clafling

Immature writing of a somewhat contrived story

I don't know if the tone of the book changed after the first (couple of) chapters, or if I got less tolerant, but it felt as if an adolescent wrote this book. There were also too many saccharine expressions.
The narrator didn't exactly improve the tone. She placed the emphasis regularly on the wrong syllables and words and often halted in the wrong spots. I didn't like her different voices for the various players. Some female voices were too sweet, some male voices gruff or commanding instead of conversational.
I found the ending confusing, partly because I either fell asleep, and had to go back a couple of times, and partly because it seemed too quickly thrown together to provide an explanation.

Terrible narration

It was really hard to get through the narration. Very childish and nasally. There were no likable characters in the story and I find it quite unbelievable that the parents of a kidnapped child would causally drink at a bar or shower and nap. Would not recommend this book.

Great unexpected twists,.

Reminds me of great Mary Higgins Clark books full of unexpected twists that leaves you guessing what's going on

Marvelous suspense mystery!

Author Stacy Claflin is already well known for her very successful paranormal and romance novels (my two least favorite fiction genres). With the Alex Mercer series she brings her talents to suspense mystery/thrillers, my favorite genre. Girl in Trouble is an outstanding fast-paced novel with a complex and very credible plot and vivid characters. It is a 5 star winner about the kidnapping of an 11 year old girl by a serial killer. Book 2 in the series is already available and Book 3 will be released later this month. Rachel Dulude's narration is stellar. I really enjoyed this novel.

Thanks once again to Audible listener Shelley for her wonderful reviews. I would have never considered a Stacy Claflin novel without her positive review.

Good story

I enjoyed this book. The ending was very confusing but didn’t really change the outcome of the book.
