Publisher's summary

From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships.

"Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world. When confronted with critical decisions about dating, sex, work, even getting dressed in the morning, Iliza argues that women will by nature consider every repercussion of every option before making a move toward what they really want. And that kind of holistic thinking can actually give women an advantage in what is still a male world.

In Iliza's own words: "Understanding Girl Logic is a way of embracing both our aspirations and our contradictions. GL is the desire to be strong and vulnerable. It's wanting to be curvy, but rail thin at the same time. It's striving to kick ass in a man's world while still being loved by the women around you.

"This book is also for me, because apparently expounding on a stage for two hours a night wasn't enough. (Trust me, if I could start a cult I would, but I hate the idea of deliberately dying in a group.)"

Loved it.

Shlesinger manages to touch so many important topics sprinkled with anecdotes and jokes that makes it a bit hard to sum it up in just a few sentences. This isn't about what divides women and men - it's about what connects us. It's about that human experience of being occasionally stressed, alone, confused or rejected, balancing conflicting perspectives in our head while life throws us curveballs.

The book is funny, pleasant, well narrated, personal and comforting.

I am not alone!

I like Iliza's stand up, and I figured this would be good to listen to while I commuted. I never expected to LOVE it and be sad when it was over. I could listen to her point of view on society and the world all day long, so I may be a bit biased. However, the book is well thought out, and I felt less "crazy" after reading it. It is good to know that other women go through some of the self-doubt and exhausting mental list of pro/cons everyday--about everything (even writing this review! haha).

I would say that this is the first book I am glad I got as an audio-book. It is worth listening to her read her own thoughts. She is great with voices, great reader, great pace, and one of my favorite comedians on top of that.

Love it!! I want more!

Girl Logic for the Win!

I loved this book. Iliza’s insights into how women think, what motivates us, and how we approach the world is spot-on. Iliza serves up a bit of comedy as the perfect side to the insightful main dish. Great book & would recommend it.

Iliza reading her own work is bliss

I will probably always laugh at Iliza. This book really is thought provoking. It could help men understand women to some extent, and it can DEFINITELY help women to stop tearing each other down. Thanks Ms. Schlesinger.

I'm That One Guy

Turned onto Iliza by a female friend of ten+ years, my quest was to consume in the car and learn further secrets of the species. I placed her name where Ilizia references 'female' in any possessive form. To me, it was nearly six hours of listening to her conscious speak to me in a form I could rewind and listen to again, at my leisure, leading to enlightened understanding...even if that was only 1% than what I thought I know before. All this led to my amygdala letting the information flow into me like an audio-voyeur behind a secret looking/listening glass. I felt like I was getting away with something. Crazy good.
