  • 109. Loab
    Mar 9 2026
In this episode, Matt discusses Loab, a woman who might be a ghost, or a demon, or a cryptid, or just an oddity of data storage. Whoever, or whatever, Loab is, she (it?) provides a ghost story that helps express what is making us uneasy about artificial intelligence and the industry of Big Data. • 108. The Kit Bag: A Ghost Story for Christmas
    Dec 15 2025
In this episode, Matt partakes in the old, but rarely practiced, tradition of telling a ghost story for the Christmas episode. The Kit Bag by Algernon Blackwood was originally published in 1908. Listen as the secretary to one of London’s best criminal defense attorneys has a difficult time packing for a Christmas vacation. This is an excellent overview of the Amityville story. After listening, I am convinced the Amityville story is just a family facing the pressures of daily life and crushing debit. The things that happened to the family were reactions to their physiology, PTSD, and marital problems. The actual horror of the house has nothing to do with the Lutz family but the true crime in the house. The crime is scary; the Lutz story is a shadow of the horror of the crime. The ghost the Lutz described was probably how the Lutz family mitigated their feelings of living in a place where the murders occurred. Not that the spirit was tangible.

An excellent analysis of the story.
