A Spookums Dream

** I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest review **
This audiobook is a neat collection of spooky ghost & paranormal related stories at its core. Its a fun listen with a lot of interesting stories that I had no idea about.
The narration by Martin James is passable. My gripe with his narration is that he's an up-speaker but doesn't change it up. Its incredibly easy to zone out with the narration and miss something in the story. I would recommend that Martin would try to show more inflection in his reads. You're reading a book about creepy, spooky and paranormal related stories. Not the daily newspaper or speech at an office.
I'm not saying to go all spooky voice for 3-4 hours, but just try to shake up your narrations. It's easy to fall asleep to this read when it should be keeping me awake all night.

I would gladly recommend this audiobook.

Describes different supernatural events.

The Author covers a variety of supernatural events as told by persons that experienced each event. She divides the events into categories and/or chapters that focus upon one specific event. Hauntings, EVPs, real world investigations, crimes that led to hauntings, and other phenomena are related in the narration with the author giving some explanations for the occurences. Several stories relate recent events; while others relate older material.
When I ordered this recording I had thought I was purchasing fiction crafted by the author. I was surprised to find the style was more like a reporter describing what is known about various occurences.
The narrator sounded a bit wooden and / or pedantic. I believe I would have enjoyed this book reading it myself rather than listening to it being read to me.

Good collection of paranormal stories

As a fan of all things haunting, I really enjoyed these brief looks into paranormal stories. As typical with collections like these some are well known and others are less. I was about 50/50 which means I need to brush up more on my stories. I like how some were old and others were more recent. While I watch their shows, I wasn’t super excited that Ghost Adventures or TAPS evidence was cited. Don’t really believe reality shows provide any credible evidence, regardless of how entertaining they are.
In general this was a good mix of paranormal stories. The stories span a long enough time that some of the more recent stories involve places you can still go visit, prices are even offered for some of those locations. There were a few like Amityville and Winchester House, which while interesting, have been documented so many times I feel like adding them to a collection is unnecessary. As with any collection, you don't get enough of the stories you really like and I'm now on to do my own research.
The narrator did a good job. I didn’t notice the robotic tone others did and listened to him quite happily. Since this is told as a matter of fact story and doesn’t involve characters I was quite happy with the narration.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Big Title, Tiny Book

This is a small collection of mediocre stories that are neither "horrifying" nor "baffling".

The prose is sloppily written with several grammatical errors and a few instances where the author seems to have a weak understanding of the word she is using.

Narration is equally mediocre with several glaring missteps in pronunciation and inattention to the period as a full stop.

Waste of time and money.

Great!

It was great! I was already quite familiar with a lot of these stories, but the factual information was delightful! The narrator was awful however.

A Compilation of Paranormal Tales

GHOST STORIES was an interesting listen. Most of the stories I've heard such as Annabelle, the Paris catacombs, and Amityville among others but there's always something new I haven't heard. I don't think this audiobook was horrifying. I'm glad it wasn't. If someone wants to hear about these stories then this is a decent listen.
The narration by Martin James was more like reporting leaving out enunciations that might give one chills and make these stories more frightening. But overall a pretty good listen.

Poorly compiled and presented

The subject matter was unconvincingly compiled and presented will little conviction. As a UK listener, the American accent and pronunciation was distracting and added nothing to the gravity of the text. It was as if he was simply reading Wikipedia entries.

A really cool collection

These are a set of interesting tales of ghost sightings and experiences and it really does make things seem a little more believable. There were a few that did stick with me and give me a few uneasy feelings afterwards. They really were interesting to read though
