Publisher's Summary

What to do if Matthew, your secret lover of the past four years, finally decides to leave his wife, Sophie (and their two daughters), and move into your flat, just when you're thinking that you might not want him anymore?

PLAN A: Stop shaving your armpits. And your bikini line. Tell him you have a moustache that you wax every six weeks. Stop having sex with him. Pick holes in the way he dresses. Don't brush your teeth. Or your hair. Or the stray hag-whisker that grows out of your chin. Buy incontinence pads and leave them lying around.

PLAN B: Accidentally on purpose bump into his wife, Sophie. Give yourself a fake name and identity. Befriend Sophie. Actually begin to really like Sophie. Snog Matthew's son (who is the same age as you by the way; you're not a paedophile). Buy a cat and give it a fake name and identity. Befriend Matthew's children. Unsuccessfully. Watch your whole plan go absolutely, horribly wrong.

Getting Rid of Matthew isn't as easy as it seems, but along the way, Helen will forge an unlikely friendship, find real love, and realize that nothing ever goes exactly to plan.

Critic Reviews

"Fallon delivers the goods in a believable and scathingly funny voice. She gives Helen and Sophie the human bumps and curves that make them so alive, you'll find yourself wishing you could ring them for lunch." ( Cleveland Plain Dealer)

Made by the excellent reader

This sort of 'chick lit' is not the sort of book I would usually listen to or read. However, I enjoyed it a great deal and the credit for this must, I think, go largely to the reader, Fenella Woolgar, who is outstanding.

The story concerns Helen, a thirty-something with a dead-end job, who is wooed by her married boss (Matthew) and ends up taking him into her home and bed. Things get more complicated when Matthew's wife (Sophie) learns of his infidelity and he is thrown out. When he comes to live with Helen, she begins to realise that things are not as rosy as they were at first.

Things thereafter get more complicated but, in the end, turn out more or less OK for everyone. An entertaining and mainly light-hearted story, if a little far-fetched in places.

What a bunch of horrible people!

Horrible book! Jane Fallon's characters always seem to be awful people! There's a thread that seems to run through all her books, of some sort of distaste toward overweight people?! And I'm really not sure who we're supposed to identify, or sympathise with - they're all dreadful?! I was looking for a casual, easy read but this was just horrible!

Really enjoyable listen

This was my first Jane Fallon but it certainly won't be my last...very funny 'modern' tale of betrayal and how to waste your life on a married man!

Recommended to all those who have loved and lost...and those that haven't!

Great fun :)

My first audiobook and it had me hooked. It was so enjoyable with lots of twists and turns. My husband downloaded it on his ipod and I didn't really expect him to enjoy it as I thought it was more of a 'girly' book but on a long, boring car journey one day he decided to give it a go and throughly enjoyed it too.

Enjoy!

Funny story, beautifully read

Very amusing story of love, betrayal and most importantly friendship. The narrator really brings the story to life. Finished in a day as was so eager to hear more!

it was alright!

I did listen to it all... very easy to follow chick lit and well narrated as far as these things go.

I would probably not read it as a book but as audio it was simple enough to follow while doing other mindless things :)

Funny and light-hearted

Really enjoy Jane Fallon's books, they are always an easy read/listen. The story line is a little ridiculous yet also believable which I like, the characters are likeable and funny. Good feel-good, easy listening audible book. Narrator was also very good. Definitely recommend if you're after good chic lit.

lazy ending

I enjoyed this book until the ending. it was just a little lazy, like the author was just keen to get it done.
