Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Getting Rid of Matthew, by Jane Fallon, read by Zoe Telford.

What to do if Matthew, your secret lover of the past four years, finally decides to leave his wife, Sophie, and their two daughters and move into your flat, just when you're thinking that you might not want him anymore....

Plan A: Stop shaving your armpits. And your bikini line. Tell him you have a moustache that you wax every six weeks. Stop having sex with him. Pick holes in the way he dresses. Don't brush your teeth. Or your hair. Or pluck out the stray hag-whisker that grows out of your chin. Buy incontinence pads and leave them lying around.

Plan B: Accidentally on purpose bump into his wife, Sophie. Give yourself a fake name and identity. Befriend Sophie. Actually begin to really like Sophie. Snog Matthew's son (who's the same age as you by the way - you're not a paedophile). Buy a cat and give it a fake name and identity. Befriend Matthew's children. Unsuccessfully. Watch your whole plan go absolutely horribly wrong.

Getting Rid of Matthew is the sharp and hilariously funny novel from Jane Fallon.

I loved this book

This is just about the best book l ever heard . And so far my favourite of Jane Fallons!

The mesh of accidents, crushes and hideous occurrences, the amazing twists, personalities and complexities couldn’t fail to excite and surprise me. I couldn’t put it down.

Thanks Jane! I shall keep searching for more of your tales of the unexpected!

These tales are all about the delivery.

These books are all about the delivery which is really funny. A dry wit in the writing that's unlike anything else I've read. The situations may seem cliche but they are simply setting the foundations for the funny dry humour of the writing. I enjoyed this. A plot as predictable and maybe even shallow as a pond and yet humour and observations as deep as a canyon. That's what I like most about it. The mix of both things. It's brilliant. I'll feast again on another story by this writer.

Save the credit

I returned this after only a few chapters. The story seems to take forever considering you know what’s happened at the beginning

Very drawn out. Not for me, I love a good thriller that gets you from the beginning and I just didn’t think this was it. Not sure if it was the story or the way it was told

Great novel, poor narration

This is one of my favourite Jane Fallon novels but the narration is awful: the end of the sentences are clipped, unnecessary /inappropriate conspiratorial tone, poor voice characterisation. Just didn't sound a realistic rendition of events.
Glad I'd had other audio books- this would have deterred me.

A great listen. Loved the narration and the plot.

A great story, very credible characters and plot. We all love happy endings and although Helen didn't deserve it this was certainly a happy ending.
