Publisher's Summary

Gertrude is back! When she finds a murder victim at her local Goodwill, she tries to tell the sheriff's department everything she knows. Of course, they don't listen. So of course, she must solve the mystery herself. And the only way she can figure to do this is to go undercover - as the Mattawooptock Goodwill's newest team member. Anyone who knows Gertrude know this probably isn't the best idea. She'll probably get fired. Or arrested. Or worse.

Lamp of Death

Gertrude just can't help herself, she stumbles over a dead body at the Goodwill. And of course, she has to solve the murder. This series is one of the most fun you'll have following this wacky character. Gertrude is a force of nature. I was gifted this from the author.

So Much Fun

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own. This is the second book in the Gertrude Gumshoe series. It is a standalone but seriously do not start here - get the first book in the series so you can completely enjoy Gertrude's adventures into detective work. Gertrude is such a fun, humorous and quirky character. And her interactions with her neighbor Old Man Crow and her fellow employees at Goodwill are just laugh out loud funny. This is a completely original cozy that is so entertaining. The narrator, Darlene Allen, is the same narrator from the first book. She is pitch perfect in her portrayal of Gertrude and all of the other characters.

Murder at Goodwill

Oh Gertrude, how do you manage to get yourself caught up in the middle of things? While doing a little Christmas shopping at Goodwill, leave it to Gertrude to stumble upon a dead body. Can she use her gumshoe talents to find the guilty party? Robin Merrill has written a fun little cozy mystery. Her depiction of Gertrude cracks me up. She’s the type of character I would love to meet in real life. Darlene Allen does a great job with the narration. Her voicing of Gertrude is exactly how I would imagine her sounding and acting. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Just as much fun as the first one

Gertrude is hilarious...so clueless in some ways yet determined to solve the mystery. She says the funniest things and I love the voice that the narrator has given her. I’m ready for book 3.

Gertrude is my favorite!

I can’t explain just how much I love Gertrude! She is sassy, with a dry humor and 0 boundaries. She will say the first thing that comes to mind & doesn’t have much of a filter. She’s older in age & has her walker with her which makes many of the tense scenes comical. These are just some of the things that make her so special & why her sleuthing is so much fun! If you are into cozy mysteries & like a fun twist then you’ll adore this series!

Another hilarious adventure for Gertrude.........

Murder at Goodwill is the second book in the Gertrude, Gumshoe series, but it could easily be read as a standalone. However, these books are so much fun that I highly recommend the first in the series as well. In this story, Gertrude finds a dead body while shopping on the discount day at Goodwill. She gets a job working undercover to investigate and is training behind the Pearly Gates, otherwise known as the sorting room at Goodwill to those of us non-hoarders. Between her experiences at the Goodwill and her misadventures at the Pound Store (a warehouse full of Goodwill castoffs sold for $1/pound), Gertrude finds both the murder weapon and the murderer. I never would have guessed the murderer or the motive, so it was a great mystery in addition to the laugh-out-loud scenes. It was fun to see Old Man Crow (her unwilling assistant) and Norman (the public CAP van driver) from the first book join us again. Darlene Allen's narration is perfect for Gertrude. She also narrated the first book in the series, so the continuity was nice. Allen perfectly portrays Gertrude's rather crotchety (but secretly caring) personality as well as giving a different voice to all of the surrounding characters. Between Merrill's wonderful imagination and Allen's terrific narration, Murder at Goodwill is a must buy (with or without discount days!). I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.

Very Good Cozy Mystery!

This was a very good audio book! I really enjoyed the narrator's delivery of the story. The inflections and voice tones greatly added to the story line. The plot was excellent and kept you guessing. The book was very well written. This is perfect for the cozy mystery fan who wants something refreshing and original. The main character is a spitfire.

Every investigation room should have a cat.

The demanding, opinionated, frequently offensive, geriatric, trailer living, cat loving self styled gumshoe finds herself confronted with another case - and body - when shopping for her Christmas gifts at Goodwill. And goes in search of a particularly hideous lampshade. Fun antics for both Gertrude and her sidekick, Calvin. Read with individual character voicings by Darlene Allen, the narration is flawed only by being too slow, easily remedied by increasing playback o speed to 1.25. I was fortunate to receive a freely gifted complimentary copy of Gertrude, Gumshoe, .Murder at Goodwill, from the rights holder, at my request via A.B.U. Thank you. This is a deliciously lighthearted, silly cozy murder mystery series, just right to lighten a dreary day. Recommended.

Goodwill story

This is the second book in the Gertrude Gumshoe series and even though I did enjoy it I preferred book one. Gertrude is the same nosy old lady who gets into trouble and every situation is life and death but there wasn't enough suspects or questioning of them for my liking. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy it and I will be listening to book three but the mystery wasn't as good, more funny calamity after another. When Gertrude stumbles over a dead body while shopping at the local goodwill store for Christmas presents, she has no choice but to investigate when she buts heads with the policeman in charge. You see she saw the murder weapon before it went missing and when the policeman repeatedly tells her to stay out of it, she goes undercover as the newest employee. There is no better place to find the murder weapon than In one of the many many goodwill bins and at the same time she might just bag herself a killer. I like the narrator and thought she did a good job with portraying the elderly Gertrude. detective with walker (Zimmer frame)

if you like agatha raisin, give this book a try. Gertrude may not be English and does not have the same resources but is very similar in attitude. A cosy mystery with no gore but a lot of quiet humour. I will definately be listening to the rest of the series I received a free copy of this audio book
