Publisher's Summary

Sprichst du Deutsch? You'll answer "ja" in no time if you use this learning technique.

What's the best way to learn a foreign language? Most people would say that it's important to learn grammar and vocabulary. After all, this is how languages have been taught in Europe for many centuries. However, modern linguistics and cognitive science prove traditional methods wrong.

The most important learning strategy, according to great linguists such as Stephen Krashen, is providing a lot of so-called comprehensible input. This means listening to a lot of texts that are challenging but are still more or less understandable. When you get a lot of such input, your mind figures out the grammar intuitively, just like it figured out the grammar of your first language. This book offers a collection of 16 short stories for beginners written in German.

The stories range from really easy, suitable for students who've just started learning German, to somewhat more complex (there are three difficulty levels all in all). Listen to them when you've got some free time, or listen to them in the car, and very soon you'll notice that you speak German without thinking about all that grammar, with the intuitive ease of a native speaker! Here's what you'll find:

  • Sixteen short stories in German, written in a beginner-friendly language
  • Two audio recordings of each story: one extra slow so that you can understand every word and one at normal speed
  • One thousand of the most common German words
  • A variety of topics so that you won't get bored
  • Vocabulary lists after every story to make sure that you've understood every word

Listening to these stories is guaranteed to boost your German skills even if you tried other learning methods and weren't successful. After all, you did master your first language by listening to it a lot, right?

Hard. Old school. Doesn’t work while driving.

Cons
Needs a lot of concentration,
hard or unusable while driving,
Hard without reading.
Translation of full text after the end is inconvenient, hard to match German words without reading.
Sound quality/recording below average (subjective perception), though consumable (feel some pressure on brains, but not badly, bearable).
Monotonous narration.

Pros
There’s a translation.
Beginner vocabulary, though some words hard to march, like verbs with prefix, catapulted to the end.

Comment:
I’d prefer translation either after each sentence or chapter, plus pauses - opportunities to repeat myself, even repeat several times myself and WITH the narrator.

Despite declaration, the approach is NOT innovative.

Pity, there’s no much of an alternative on the market.
Do not recommend, unless you’re desperate.

Perfect audiobook..!!

This audiobook is a great choice for beginning/intermediate German learners. The stories are simple without being childish. I did not understand every word, but simple glossaries, summaries of each story, and review questions helped strengthen my comprehension and recall.

Lots of helpful features

It's great having both a German and an English glossary WITHIN these stories so there's no flipping around to a glossary in the back of the audiobook. I like that the stories aren't too long but allow for enough German vocabulary and that they end with short overview quizzes so you can test yourself after finishing each story.

Great and easy !

I was already happy with their audiobook that included text, but this audiobook also has translations after each paragraph/sentence so you know exactly what is going on. The narrator is easy to listen to and it is nice to be able to listen and hear the words being pronounced as you follow along.

Extremely Great !

This audiobook is very helpful for a beginner learning German. The sentences are basic to understand, and the English translation helps me draw connections to the phrases.

Very useful for busy learners.

The translation into English is often an incidental insight as to word choice in the German sentence.

Excellent audiobook.

Excellent audiobook for everyone who has a desire to learn German. I find it easy and fun to read. It suits me fine even for night hours when I am already tired. It is structured in a good way, so you are really left with new knowledge after spending some time listening.

Nice

This is a nice little audio audiobook. I enjoyed listening to it. The overall level of the German spoken is quite accessible for beginner German learners. The one drawback that I found, toward the beginning of the audiobook, is there were several stories and audio clips that were unrelated to the overall story, but those clips are nonetheless still good listening and listening practice. In sum, this is a good audio audiobook to get started listening to German with, and I recommend it for beginning German learners.

Highly Recommended !!!

This Audible of short stories is a great way to get another look at pronunciation and sentence structure. It is a good format for those who know some words but are still in the process of learning. There is a couple sentence in German and then it is followed by the English translation. There were a couple different stories such as morning routines, days with the family, and going on holidays. It is also nice to see a different style of story that is not common in the Audible that I have been learning from in class. There are a couple recipes, there is a list of ingredients then directions on how to make them. The audio goes through the story in a nice pace and I did not fine the narrator to be annoying.

get a native English speaker to test your lessons

The vocabulary section does not tell you the gender of the words.
The English translations sound odd to a native speaker.
The entire story is presented in German, then translated. This might work if you are following the PDF too, but is not easy to follow while walking or driving.
