Very helpful book and I highly recommend it!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

After listening to 33 chapters of the book, I can really say that it's worth having it. I learned a lot of German words. My pronunciation is better now. This book helped me so much. One of the great things about it is they have chapters of translation from English common phrases and sentences to German which are very useful especially for a beginner in learning German language. I highly recommend this audio book.

This book was really helpful for me. I listened to this book while I was driving and I also listened to it while reading the book. By having an audio companion, this book really helped me to learn how to read and pronounce German. I like how there were multiple readers, it allowed for a variety of speakers just like how it is in the real world. Aside from the short stories, this book also included German vocabularies that had English definitions, which definitely helped me learn the words. I also liked how at the end of each short story there was a short quiz about it, the quizzes helped me see if I understood or comprehended the story. Overall, I recommend listening to this book while reading along to allow for maximum comprehension.

Got me excited about learning German again.

A large portion of my family is from Germany and speaks the language, so it has always been an important part of my heritage. This audio book got me excited to learn more about the language and broaden my reading, speaking, and listening abilities. The short stories are a fun way to comprehend all the components of the language while being engaged at the same time. It was also nice that they were catered towards common activities that most people will encounter such as going to a restaurant or visiting a park. I am excited to be able to tell my family the next time I see them that I am advancing my German and be able to test out my refreshed vocabulary. This book was the perfect way for me to get started in an introductory way without expending too much of my day.

Perfect for a daily commute!

German Short Stories is terrific! As a busy professional, I’m always eager to find the best tools to help keep my beginning German language skills fresh, without having to commit to expensive evening classes or an online testing course. Each chapter is short enough that I can listen to at least two stories during my commute. The narrators have clear, even pacing. It’s a great feeling to be able to understand a full narrative with a native speaker - not just a word or two. I highly recommend this audiobook for anyone wanting to maintain their German studies in a convenient way!

Great For Beginner & Advanced Learners Alike

As a beginner to the German language this book may seem intimidating at first, however, I found it to be incredibly helpful with my comprehension of German. I've never been formally taught German so the opportunity to hear proper pronunciations in various speed was perfect.


If you are more of an intermediate learner of German, I would recommend listening through the book without the PDF first to see how much you can understand.


However, it is still an amazing book for beginners. I highly recommend viewing the PDF with the audio from the beginning, which has amazing keys that translate the German to English, the PDF also supplies a summary in English followed by questions in German. I found these incredibly helpful to keep track of the story as a novice.


Overall this book is an inspiring supplement to learning German in a way that's far more immersive than simple flashcards or vocabulary lists.

Great way to learn German

This audiobook is fun and easy to listen to. The speaker is easy to understand, which I love because sometimes it can be difficult to understand speakers when first learning a language. I have studied German a little bit before but not extensively and I feel like I was able to learn a lot from this audiobook. I would recommend this to anyone who wants more listening practice.

A great tool for improving your German listening

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It’s great for German listening practice, and you’ll definitely improve your listening-comprehension, and learn new phrases and words. Since you can listen to it on audible, it’s easy to improve your German while listening in the car while you’re driving, or cooking, or whatever you might be doing. There are two distinct sections. In the introductory section, the narrator interrupts the story frequently to go over the words and phrases just used, and to translate them into English. At the end of each story, the narrator repeats all the words and phrases again. In the second section the narrator just narrates the story. In the second section, the German is more intermediate than beginner, due to the native pronunciation of the speaker and the rate at which he speaks. But don’t let that discourage you. This is a great audiobook for improving your Deutsch!

Highly Recommend!

I have a tiny German vocabulary learned from friends and multiple visits to Oktoberfest-style festivals. I've always wanted to learn more, and I love how this book reinforces the little bit I know and builds on it to teach me more. I haven't finished listening yet, but I'm learning a lot! They do talk a little fast though. I don't know if I'd understand so quickly without the book to read along.

I found this very useful in learning German. As someone who wants to travel to Germany soon, this is very useful in vocabulary, sentence structure, and grammar. It is a fresh and enjoyable way to learn the language, and the glossaries help with learning new words simply. Both the short stories and glossaries are spoken clearly and in a way to easily learn new words and phrases. Being such a smooth read and listen, I recommend this to those who want to learn German in a fun and enjoyable way.

This audiobook is great for those who want to learn German in a fun way! The stories were mostly simple and easy to follow but held my attention. The English glossary was also very useful. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to advance their skills!
