Publisher's Summary

Raven Black returns in another heart-pounding installment of the USA Today best-selling Crossbreed series.

Vampire trafficking is a sinister business, and nobody knows that better than Keystone. After Raven discovers hidden clues in a cold case, the group sets a trap in hopes of catching an elusive criminal. But when the plan backfires, Raven's world is thrown into chaos, and Christian's loyalty is put to the ultimate test.

Buried secrets come to light, and the only thing keeping Raven grounded is her insatiable thirst for vengeance. The stakes are high as they travel to a place where the landscapes are as treacherous as the immortals who live there. This time, there's no room for mistakes.

Will Raven have the courage to tame the violence in her heart before it swallows her whole?

You will not put it down and want to read it twice

5/5
In Gaslight, Raven is out on a mission, to have it flipped. Raven is then taken into a physical and mental journey on her own. Christian leads the search, but where to look--she was there and then gone. Raven finds answers to many of her unanswered questions from her past, but at what cost. So much happens, and so much to overcome. Anything more said would spoil the story for you.

From beginning to end---you will not be disappointed.--A MUST READ

Nicole Poole is excellent.

Nicole Poole is amazing

There has been very very few times in my life where i have actually preferred to listen to the audio of a book vs reading it on my own. This is one of those times. If i did stop to read it i read it in the characters voices that Nicole Poole perfected. And i do mean perfected. IT was amazing, I am completely blown away. The accents, inflections, everything was spot on. Her voice acting was as good, if not better than a television show (probably better, since i was very productive whilst listening to the series). The narrator brought every character to life and Im so appreciative that I got to enjoy it!

Houdini is becoming a stretch

I absolutely love this series and it is probably my top three. you and I feel like Houdini having total control of everyone's lives is becoming too much of a stretch. really hoping book five and six. Resolving some of this Houdini stuff.

Had a bit of trouble with this book.

I love the series, but this book was to obvious and the abductions a bit ridiculous. I hope the next one has a story change.

Another Amazing Crossbreed's Installment

Gaslight by Dannika Dark is the newest installment in the Crossbreed series. The focal point told mainly from the perspective of Raven Black, is on the investigative group Keystone. The group connects evidence to potential suspects so the Higher Authority can deal justice as swiftly as possible. There are several subplots and personal elements that piece together throughout the series. I recommend reading the Crossbreed books from the beginning for this reason.

Raven is a strong protagonist. Dissatisfied with life, Raven paid dearly for her decision to become an immortal. After finding Keystone, Raven found a purpose that helped her deal with the abuse she suffered at the hands of her Creator. Raven has kept her humanity, her ability to love, to make friends and a semblance of conscience. The events in this book threaten these things, and I was shocked by and sympathetic to what occurred.

I have experienced many plot points I didn't see coming in this series, mainly ones that have to do with character connections, and I love it. To me, this shows a great deal of care in the craft of the narrative. Witnessing moments that seem innocuous in book one later turn out to be a harbinger of things to come. These are the types of plots that I crave. I want to be kept on my toes, looking around every corner for a revelation.

I always enjoy the members of Keystone. Their relationships with each other continue to solidify, and their trust continues to build. The hopes I had at the end of the last book are coming to pass. And Chaos/ Houdini, I am torn on how to feel. He retains his charm and seeing him through Raven's eyes amplifies that. The best antagonists convince us they are not all bad. He is the type of character I get fleeting moments of hope they may be redeemable. But Houdini is not good, and I see a tense resolution coming from his presence here.

Raven and Christian continue to struggle with their romance. Outer forces are now deliberately trying to keep them apart, which will certainly test their dedication to each other. I still believe they are a perfect match and as the old saying goes what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. Here is hoping for them it does.

One observation I want to make, and it may be a slight spoiler, it seems the biggest evil done is always in the hands of a Mage. Not all of them are bad, but I feel soon I am going to stop trusting them. Which leads me to this warning, anyone who has a sensitive trigger should be cautious. This world can be dark at times, and horrific things transpire in this story. It is not exploitative, and there is hope after, but the torture at the hands of a Mage is not sugar-coated.

I have yet read a book by Dannika Dark I did not like, also look for the Seven series and the Mageri series, but some of my favorite characters are in these books. Christian, Raven, Niko, Wyatt, Shepard, Claude, Blue, Gem, Viktor ... Okay, so Keystone rocks and I like spending time with all of them. All opinions are my own and may not be identical to others. I urge all readers to come to their own conclusions.

A Broken Record

This was my least favorite of the series. How many times is Raven going to get her memory scrubbed? How many times is Raven going to forget she likes Christian?... These things have already been done in earlier books. Ugh! No need for repeats so early in the series.

This book really makes our female heroine into the victim. Again. It attempts to give us some insight into Raven's past with her creator and maker. Creator being the one who turned her into a mage and Maker being the one who turned her into a Vampire. Unfortunately, the insight comes at a price.

Why does Raven meet her Maker and Creator in the same book? Those are huge events and it seems unlikely that she should accidently happen upon both of them regardless of the circumstances that lead up to it. Raven seems like a character that should have been allowed to hunt them down.

Personally, I don't think the first half of the book matches with the second half. In one half Raven is all about bringing the good out of the bad guys and the second half she wants to kill everything that moves. Maybe the story should have been longer to really get the transformation to stick... but for me it was off a bit.

I'm not sure why the author decided to postpone the romance between Raven and Christain. It's been dragged out and teased for four books. Those who are thinking this is the one will be disappointed.

This is odd but the necklace Raven got as a gift from Christain... Does anyone else picture the necklace from Titanic?

I must say the narrator, Nice Poole, hahas really grown on me. Her voices for Christian and Victor just really catch my ear.

Raven

There are no words that will do this book justice. Phenominal, the tragedies the Raven faces are more than anyone should be able to handle . Christian will always have her back. Love this series!
