Game of Fear is Eerily Believable!

Have you listened to any of Todd Haberkorn’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to Todd Haberkorn before. I thought he did a very good job narrating this book. Although he is not my favorite I would listen to him again.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. I don't want to spill too much but will try to tell some. So we have terrorists right here in the US kidnapping genius teenagers to hack into NSA and other govt agencies and personal pc's belonging to politicians who wield power to use at a later date for bribery and other purposes. The teens that don't cooperate end up buried in the desert somewhere. There are some minor conflicts and a romance going on in the background but these do not overshadow the main plot. I thought it was a very good and believable book, certainly worth your time and WOW, I don't know why but it was all of $4.89!!!! Great deal!

Excellent listen!

One of the best narrators ever, and a story line that swept me up and kept me eagerly looking forward to what happened next. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, so it being as good as it was took me completely by surprise!

Excellent narrator raises the star count

Overall I enjoyed this one. Mainly, I have to say, because of the outstanding performance of the narrator. For me the narrator is SO important and I have been so disappointed with so many narrators in the past that, these days, I tend to select a book to spend my money on based on the narrator. I have never been disappointed with this narrator. A very talented actor/reader.

The book itself had an interesting premise and there was plenty of action/excitement. The romance was relegated to second place behind the action so I wouldn't call this a romance in the traditional sense. I do feel, however, that the story could have been condensed into two thirds of its length and still have delivered. It was a bit protracted for my liking. But then, there was more time to listen to the narrator and that was never a hardship.

Worth the credit for me.

Really Good

Helicopter Pilot Deb Lansing is always responsible, always on top of everything, and never leaves anyone behind. When her younger sister Ashley is suddenly missing she is ready to go after her alone. She once saved the life of Gabe Montgomrey; the youngest of the six fighting Montgomrey brothers. Gabe isn't the type of man who forgets, or the type of man who allows a woman he cares about to face trouble alone. Gabe also knows something none of his brothers know; they have a half sister.
In an interesting concept a computer game played by the smartest kids is the entry into banks, defense systems, and the personal computers of the world's most powerful people; and these kids continue to disappear in ways that do not look suspicious. In what is a usual literary twist Ashley is connected to the girl at the center of the second worst night of his life.
There are a few obvious television touches here as well as some over the top drama and way too much cutesy dialogue however the main story line is a good one; not good enough for five stars but pretty damn good nonetheless.

too many inconsistencies
the little sister is supposed to be a brainiac but couldn't pick up on someone helping her escape.
big sister is has military training yet gives credit to luck.
doesn't anyone in this book have any self worth for themselves?
definitely returning this book.

Embarrassing!

I'm not sure why I kept listening. It was alternately slow and sappy and then to much going on to keep track of. It couldn't decide if it was a romance novel, an action thriller, a mystery or a family saga. Audible, you ought to be ashamed of yourself for having recommended this as an overlooked treasure.

Cheesy and cliche

Many times the author made me physically wince because the descriptions or dialogue were just so over the top cliche. It's almost like a satire of the hard boiled detective with something to prove trope except that it isn't at all tongue in cheek, it's deadly earnest. Painful.

Surprisingly a great book.

Bought book because it was under $10 and was surprised how much I liked it. Page turner and nail bitter

Good read! Sometimes a bit too mushy and self-loathing but the crime part of the book was on point!!!

Stilted and mechanical writing style.

While listening I thought… “Was this book written in the 60’s or maybe the 80’s?” I had to check to make sure. My friends and I make jokes about films and books that use the three politically correct villains Russians, Germans and the Corporate CEO. This is one of those books. The book had a style that I would say was immature. I thought it was a teenage or young adult novel. It was very dull and unbelievable to the point of silliness. The writing was so stilted that I cared for none of the numerous characters. I felt the storyline was mechanical, he did that and then he did this and then this happened.
