Critic reviews

"Each narrator in this romantic comedy is perfectly cast, providing just the right voice, accent, and touch to make his or her character interesting, funny, and larger than life. Chas's Southern accent is charming and suave, and Legs's own voice is sultry and hot. The result is a winning combination." (AudioFile magazine)

Fun but wanted MORE! (which isn't bad)

First Thought when Finished: Game On by Gabra Zackman was fun sexy romp but the story could have been more flushed out.

Overall Thoughts: I really enjoyed Game On (my stepmom enjoyed it even more) but it must be said that at times it relied a little to much on sass instead of strength of story. I wanted a little bit more from the story--more background, character building, and mystery. I liked what was there though: pacing, sass, fun, and excitement. This story was short which means I suffered from what I always do with short stories: the want of more. I will read more if this turns into a series though because I loved the characters. They were quirky, sexy, and at times a bit over a top in a totally fun way (think Stephanie Plum but with real badass skills). If you are looking for something sexy, fun, and exciting I don't think you will be disappointed in Game On!

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: L. J. Ganser, Therese Plummer, Lauren Fortgang / Length: 5 hrs

The narration was out of this park! Seriously it was just downright fun and brought the characters too life. You can tell they had fun with the subject matter because they let the sass fly! Totally recommend this on audio if you pick it up. You will thank me later!

Not Your Mama's Romance Novel!

What did you love best about Game On?

I loved both the story and the performances. Fast-paced and fun, this book was a great mash up between romance and espionage caper. I appreciated the strong, witty women characters who aren't afraid to actively pursue love and sex while kicking butt at their jobs--they were the equals of the men in the book and insisted on being treated as partners, not possessions to be protected. Most romance novels (at least the ones I've listened to) seem to feature women who are insecure, submissive and/or inexperienced--which often reads as code for a "good" woman deserving of love. Legs, Lisa Bee, AJ and the other female characters turned this stereotype on its head. And the performances were amazing, which made the characters really come to life. Having a full cast made this already enjoyable story even better.

A Must-Listen: Vibrant, funny, sexy, and smart!

Where does Game On rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I listen to tons of audiobooks - I have a looooong subway ride as part of my commute - and this was absolutely one of my favorites this year. I took the local just to hear the whole thing!

What did you like best about this story?

It's a super sassy, fun, funny, sexy story - with an adventurous, bold spine. Super bada** female protagonists; I was entirely absorbed. Love the dialogue and seamless blending of genres. More, more please!

Engaging and delightful!

I have never listened to an audiobook with voices other than the narrator. I loved it!

This wonderful cast makes Game On come alive. Not only were the voices and acting wonderful, the story really came alive for me. This sexy, fun book was made even more so by this recording. I can't wait for the second in the series.

Brings a lively book to life!

What did you love best about Game On?

I read this book when it was published, and I enjoyed it enormously. Now, listening to the audio book, I feel it's come to life in an entirely new way. The nuances brought to the script by the performers added so much to my enjoyment of what is already a very entertaining story.

What did you like best about this story?

It's very surprising, and very funny, with just a hint of pathos. And the characters are so fully drawn, that I feel like I know them all personally. This is a great combination of workplace interaction, undercover intrigue, romance, and sex.

Any additional comments?

Zackman's debut feels like anything but. Her writing exhibits great confidence and control, but with a light touch, and an unabashed and unapologetic inclination toward the occasional groaner. This merely adds to the enjoyment of listening to this fabulous and original story. Looking forward to the next installment.

Outstanding entertainment!

Any additional comments?

Zackman's is a bold, funny voice - both as a writer and a performer - and it's a rare treat to be immersed in such a large, able cast of actors.

You've Heard This One Before

Formulaic and cliched, a lot of the same old tired storylines mixed with generic sex scenes and yawn inducing plot; excellent narrators can't save this one.

Bod Squad Book One

Bod Squad Book One.

Susannah “Legs” Carter is on the hunt for a super hacker that her team has identified as Charles Oakley Palmer III. When she literally stumbles into him outside the party he's hosting, the two fall into instant lust. After a scorching night together, Palmer flees to Paris and Susannah's team finds out he is involved with more dangerous men than they had originally thought. Now Susannah is determined to get the information from him and get out ASAP.

Audio Review: Full Cast Production
The author narrates this story with a full cast of characters, which gives each person a distinctive voice. The narration flows smoothly between each person, so there is no choppy separation in between.

If you're looking for a quirky investigative team on the hunt for white collar criminals, this is the story for you!
