Publisher's Summary

It’s Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, but PI Franki Amato has too many problems to celebrate. A proven Sicilian lemon tradition hasn’t landed her a proposal, so her nonna has amped up the meddling to get her married, and pronto.

Franki’s also under pressure to solve the strange murder of a family friend’s nephew, Nick Pescatore, who was found on a Mississippi River steamboat rumored to be haunted. When the sinister old boat sets sail on an overnight gambling cruise, Franki goes undercover with a motley crew, including a Mark Twainophile captain with a murderous past, a slimy galley chef with a mobster brother, and not to mention an ex-stripper landlady with a newfound career as a memoir writer and all-too public speaker.

Franki has to figure out what missing Civil War gold, a playing card, and a mysterious woman on roller skates have to do with Nick’s death. If she doesn’t, it’s anchors aweigh for Franki - down to Davy Jones’ locker.

"Traci Andrighetti's Franki Amato Mysteries have me tickled pink! Her smart, sassy heroine, wacky cast of characters, and vividly original settings had me glued to the page. I can’t wait to read more from this author!" (Gemma Halliday, The New York Times best-selling author)

"Traci's writing is sharp and funny; the world she paints leaps off the page and makes the reader laugh out loud. A thoroughly enjoyable voice in fiction!" (Kristin Harmel, internationally best-selling novelist and author of The Sweetness of Forgetting)

Galliano Gold

I must say these ladies have done it again, Traci Andrighetti wrote another fantastic story and Madeline Mrozek just nailed the preformance! I think they both have outdone themselves with this one. Madeline's narrations of certain characters really shine and made the book a delight to listen to. Franki and her crew are back at a new case. And this one is no less dangerous than the ones before. I think that is one of the things I love about this series, you always get a good dose or real tragedy and fear for Franki. She always seems to be in over her head. And wow Franki's mom really lets loose this time. Fantastic listen!

Cranky Franki

I love this series and the wide variety of kooky characters. This one was the hardest to get through mostly because Franki was so terribly grumpy the whole time. Like over the top crankiness. She avoided Shondra, and badmouthed her even though the psychic helped her on some other cases and was nice to her. She spent so much time complaining and whining that I actually said "grow up" out loud while listening. Overall, I still liked this book. As usual, it kept me guessing and giggling throughout. A very fun series! Great narration brings the characters to life.

an interesting and funny cozy mystery

I enjoyed this audio book and now I will have to start the series from the beginning. The narrator Madeline Mrozek does a great job with the different characters. I received a free copy with a request for an honest review of what turned out to be an interesting and funny cozy mystery.

Madeline Mrozek does a great job reading these stories. The characters are differentiated; she conveys interest and emotion. As an avid audiobook listener, top marks for her narration, The story is a fun frolic. You’ll enjoy time in the French Quarter and really crave the food!

Hilarious cozy mystery

In the middle of the Mardi Gras season, Franki finds Nick Pescatore dead aboard an old haunted steamboat called the Galliano. Nick is a nephew of her nonna’s boyfriend, so this almost feels personal to Franki, who is dealing at the same time with her nonna’s obsession with Franki’s spinsterhood. This was a rollercoaster of emotions, adventure, and never-ending humor! We are dealing with a very serious case here, as there is already a murder to investigate, but the side stories made the book more enjoyable, as they added humor and depth to the main story. This book can be read as a standalone, but it would be much more enjoyed if read in the right order in the series, as there are a couple of backstories regarding Franki’s love life her nemesis Sullivan worth knowing. Also, after four books, the characters are already quite familiar and reading about them is like revisiting old friends. As with previous books, there are several twists and turns that I did not see coming, keeping my attention until the end. The plot was well-paced, incorporating some action scenes and lots of witty comments. I had a lot of fun listening to this audiobook! But the best part of this audiobook was Madeline Mrozek’s narration. Madeline has a great talent to bring the characters to life, providing each one with a distinctive voice and style. The dialogs sounded natural and were easy to follow, and she had me laughing more than once at how matter of fact some sentences sounded. This was a good book, but Madeline’s narration definitely made it terrific! There are some outtakes added by Madeline at the end of the audiobook that absolutely cracked me up. I would like to see more of this in other audiobooks. It is a fun detail and also shows how much work goes into an audio production. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Frankie is funny!

Frankie does a lot of crazy things as a PI but she is stubborn, loyal, and pretty clever. She certainly never gives up. What makes the series great though is the cast of characters she has to put up with. Her family. Her stripper landlady. Her colleagues. Everyone in New Orleans. The stories have depth too.

Another fun book in the series!!

I am really loving the Franki Amato Mysteries. This is book 5 and I have listened to them all! The narrator does such a superb job with the different voices, it sounds like a different person is narrating! At the end were some bloopers which were very funny!! This book finally gives a good conclusion to a running theme throughout the series! I can’t wait for the next book. I don’t want to give any spoilers away.

Everything glittery isn't gold but this book is

I think this is my favourite book in this series, but then again I remember writing that about the last book as well. Let's just say the series gets better and better. It is such a fun series and in my opinion you shouldn't miss out on any of these books. The characters are so bright and colourful (even nonna who is in morning and always dresses in black or grey) that it is so easy to picture the story as it unfolds. I love the family and all the traditions that bring havoc to Franki's life, very funny. Just imagine little old Italian ladies working with an ex stripper who as an aversion to clothes and you get the picture. Franki's Nonna's very close friends Luigi (is there finally wedding bells in Franl's mum future) nephew is missing and rather than have the Nonnas come looking for him Franki agrees to investigate. However this doesn't work when Franki finds his body on a haunted steam boat, the Nonnas descend on Franki and her unsuspecting landlord ex stripper Glender and take over. Things get worse for Franki when Luigi is kidnapped in front of her and it is a race against time to find him before the mob put an end to a family feud. Franki and a surprising team of misfits must go under cover on the steam boat and fight ghosts , mob guys, grumpy chiefs and cops with grudges all before the boat leaves the dock. Oh and not to mention Franki only has a couple of days to get a proposal or the lemon tradition will be broken and she will bring shame to her family, something her Nonna will not stand for, as she hires Franki's co workers to find out why she doesn't have a ring yet. but with Bradley being arrested it looks like she might be looking for a new boyfriend and not a wedding dress. I like the narrator and think she does an excellent job with all the voices and definitely adds a little something to the story. She also sounds like she had fun reading the book as evidented by the bloopers at the end of the story.
