Badly researched - story simply bad
I really like Marc Elsberg's books, but this one unfortunately is just a major disappointment. The performance is great, but this is the first story by Marc Elsberg that's just not well researched nor thought through.
Spoiler alert: the suspense builds up regarding a new paradigm shift in economic theory, until (spoiler alert) the revolutionary theory is revealed essentially as more or less a communist system. While mathematically obviously not wrong, it just doesn't take into account human behavior and anybody with an economic background will immediately understand the flaws and why the theory would not work. Of course one can't expect a paradigm shift in economic theory from a fiction author, but I still expected a bit more than that (better if the revolutionary theory would stay a mister in an open end
).
In addition, the whole story is just very repetitive. The two protagonists are being hunted by the police and some killers at the same time. They repeatedly almost get caught by both and just escape, then repeat.
On the positive side, Marc Elsberg does illuminate some flaws in our current capitalistic system like the tendencies to create monopolies and to widen the gap between rich and poor, but those are taught in any first year economics course and surely nothing new to any reader.
Overall, while I'm still a fan of Marc Elsberg's work, this book is just a failure and really not worth the read/listen.
