Be it its name, appearance, or qualities, an axolotl takes ten on ten for its uniqueness quotient. Axolotls belong to the salamander family. Their face looks like a smiley’s been perpetually drawn on it and they have tiny hands and feet which give them the name ‘walking fish’. However, they are amphibians with the ability to breathe out of water albeit for a very short period. Named after the Aztec god of fire and lightning they have the distinctive ability to regenerate lost limbs and even organs like the heart, and brain. They live for quite a long and are relatively easy to care for.
