Publisher's summary

A 2020 Audie Awards winner - short stories/collections

The number one New York Times best-selling author of The Fireman and Strange Weather returns with a dark and ingenious collection of 13 compelling short stories that showcase his ability to “push genre conventions to new extremes” (New York Times Book Review), performed by a stunning multi-cast featuring Zachary Quinto, Wil Wheaton, Kate Mulgrew, Neil Gaiman, Ashleigh Cummings, Joe Hill, Laysla De Oliveira, Nate Corddry, Connor Jessup, Stephen Lang, and George Guidall.

In this masterful collection of short fiction, Joe Hill dissects timeless human struggles in 13 relentless tales of supernatural suspense, including “In The Tall Grass”, one of two stories cowritten with Stephen King, basis for the terrifying feature film from Netflix.

A little door that opens to a world of fairy-tale wonders becomes the blood-drenched stomping ground for a gang of hunters in “Faun”. A grief-stricken librarian climbs behind the wheel of an antique bookmobile to deliver fresh reads to the dead in “Late Returns”. In “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain”, two young friends stumble on the corpse of a plesiosaur at the water’s edge, a discovery that forces them to confront the inescapable truth of their own mortality...and other horrors that lurk in the water’s shivery depths. And tension shimmers in the sweltering heat of the Nevada desert as a faceless trucker finds himself caught in a sinister dance with a tribe of motorcycle outlaws in “Throttle”, cowritten with Stephen King.

Featuring two previously unpublished stories and a brace of shocking chillers, Full Throttle is a darkly imagined odyssey through the complexities of the human psyche. Hypnotic and disquieting, it mines our tormented secrets, hidden vulnerabilities, and basest fears and demonstrates this exceptional talent at his very best.

Critic reviews

"A terrific cast of narrators lend their voices to 13 stories by Joe Hill, two of which are cowritten with his dad, Stephen King.... Listeners will find their own favorites. However, booklovers may agree that 'Late Returns,' narrated by Wil Wheaton - about a librarian slipping through time to offer the dead one last great read - is the gem of this collection." Editor's Pick

A collection you don’t want to miss!
"Christmas must be in October this year because in the spooky spirit, Joe Hill has spun and gifted me with thirteen genius tales of horror that have been audibly amplified by a spectacular cast of performers from Zachary Quinto (*internally screams*) and to another favorite narrator of mine, Neil Gaiman. Joe even pairs up with the king of horror himself, Stephen King, to gift us with the short story “Throttle,” where one truck driver must defend himself against a motorcycle gang gone rogue in the middle of the desert. If that doesn’t entice you enough, Hill includes never-before-published stories, just in time to get you into the Halloween spirit."—Nicole R., Audible Editor

5 stars- and I haven’t even gotten past the introduction

Well, Joe Hill, if it’s any consolation, I didn’t realize you were “Stephen & Tabitha King’s” son until after purchasing your third audiobook. And I loved every one.

The introduction to this book is one of the finest I’ve ever read & listening to it made it even better. It was quite enlightening, and the intro alone was worth the price of admission.

Fortunately, we had fall clean-up for a big house.

Because if we hadn't been able to take this wild ride all at once, well....we just don't know what!

And it is a ride, through different ages and places, each with its own heart and soul.

The King family has provided us with the best tales since we were young. They're like the Beatles and other classic rockers: we buy everything they give us out of respect, and are always sweetly unsurprised when it's great!

Just can’t say enough about Joe Hill ( Baby Stephen King). Always wonder stories with a lot of thrill. Keep writing your short stories. I’m digging them. Thanks.

Some good stories

I’d hoped to be scared a bit seeing that King and son are involved. But was disappointed in general.

Ehhhhh just ok

Let me start with saying I love Joe Hill.... This collection was simply not something I enjoyed. I had a hard time finishing it honestly. NOS4ATU, Heart Shaped Box, Locke and Key, Horns, The Fireman... all amazing. This, just wasn’t in the same league.

Intro is one of the best parts

This is a delightful short story collection. One of my favorite sections, though, was the intro, where Joe Hill talks about developing as a writer (oh, and doing so in the shadow of two writer parents, one of whom is Stephen King).

Whimsical wth humor and an edge

Okay, I haven't read much Stephen King cause I am more familiar with the movies made from his books. The movies I've seen often mess with my mind and I always said I don't need the author messing with it more intensely. Having said that, I just listened to this book and I must say Joe may not be exactly like his dad but is pretty damn good in his own right. I really enjoyed some of these stories, some more than others but all were good Bravo Sir! You have gained a new reader and I can't wait to find more of your books.
Well worth the read or the listen. I found myself smiling, crying, wanting more, and sad to hear the end come. Highly recommend you give it a listen!
