Publisher's Summary

Hitler's war is reaching out to affect every member of the Neyler family.

Val Neyler, driving an ambulance through the blazing heart of London, is in an impossible position, for the man she loves is a fighter pilot with the Luftwaffe. And Jenny, whose husband, Simon, is flying Spitfires, finds herself working as a landgirl on a Devon farm. Cara, by contrast, develops her social life, and Maude, in the WAAF, falls in love with two men at once.... And Tina, matriarch of the family, loves them all, scolds them all and tries to understand the new generation growing up in the troubled times of war.

No plot, confused and just terribly written

Utterly terrible writing, no depth to the characters. And nothing happened. Literally no plot whatsoever! In addition, I presume she was trying to reflect the time in which it is set but even with that in mind, there is no need for the sexism and constant references to womens' looks. (Apparently 'plain' women will never make anything of themselves whereas the beautiful ones have the world at their feet). There are do many characters, you don't get to know anything about them and it jumps from one to another constantly. As a result, it is only when you reach the end that you realise that the incessant hopping from one character to another conceals the fact that there is no plot attached to the book. The most bizarre book I've ever read!
