Publisher's summary

Welcome to the most dangerous town in the West. For Marshal Bob Hatfield, that means rough justice and 100 ways to die...

In the shadow of the Prophecy Mountains, the ramshackle boomtown of Rattlesnake Wells draws schemers, predators, and desperate pilgrims. As for the law, that's the town marshal, a former Texas outlaw trying to make a new life for himself. But Sundown Bob Hatfield knows a man who's slick on the draw can't escape trouble for long. In Rattlesnake Wells, you fight fire with fire - and a new one has just exploded.

An enterprising saloon owner stages a shooting contest with a matched pair of gold-plated revolvers as first prize. But some contestants don't play by the rules, and these aren't just any old gold-plated guns. Now the guns are gone, innocent hostages have been taken for a violent ride, and a chase is on into the vast Wyoming wilderness - where a terrifying dark secret will be exposed, much blood will be spilled, and a fast-gun marshal will bring the real outlaws to their knees...

Great Story as usual from Johnstone

The narrator is still a little tough to understand at times but does better in this second book, I will listen to all three in the series.

Started a little slow but its an exceptional read.....Listen............. as usual from this author

Who REALLY wrote this?

Brad Dennison?

I know JA Johnstone can’t turn out the amount of novels attributed to her. Each series seems to have a flavor and spirit of their own.

I like this series a lot. As always I enjoy the narration by J. Rodney Turner. Not a lot of foot dragging in the action, a little too much in the romance department. All in all an interesting story.

Missed hearing about Peter and Vern’s uncle and younger brother!

narrator is pretty monotone so hard to follow the exciting parts with the same enthusiasm as the story.

Bad language.

Disappointing language in an otherwise good story.
Using the Lords name in vain just hits a nerve. I’m sure the author could substitute other words for those.

Clean the swamp

I would have like to have seen the Senator hang. Maybe it happens later. Would have liked to hear Bullock’s response to Gafford.

Really enjoyed this.

This had a lot double crossing and triple crossing in it. I really enjoyed that. The Shaw's cracked me up. Again cringed a little whenever it time for Consuelo to speak. Loved her story line and heroics.

Good book, great narration

I didn't the like it as well as the first one, but it was still good. Especially considering I'm usually not the Western type and tend to gravitate more towards the vampire/werewolf/fairy type stories.

I love this narrator, too. I'll definitely listen to the next book in the series.

Entirely forgettable

I’ve listened to many many books by this author(s). I love westerns my favorite being Lonesome Dove. I understand that the good guys always win and the dime novel genre these books embrace but this one is so lazily done it ignores any reality including the facts of the book itself. It’s as if one person started the book and someone else finished it without reading it or they just ran out of time and made up ridiculous scenarios to wrap it up. It also leaves to many unanswered questions like who got the guns again as if it were just time to stop writing. I felt insulted.
