Publisher's summary

Atticus Riot took a bullet to his head the day his partner was killed. Three years later, Riot returns to San Francisco to put his ghosts to rest, but the abduction of an heiress snags his attention.

Two ransom demands are delivered, and the husband of the abducted Isobel Kingston is hiding the truth. The clock is ticking. Can Riot find Mrs. Kingston in time, or will she become one more regret among many?

A great beginning

An unusual Victorian story (set in California) brimming with wonderful historical details. Riot and his associates do plenty of Sherlock Holmes-style deductions as they unpick a knotty mystery. Heading straight for book #2!

Play at 115% speed

Enjoyed this story and seeing a strong female character; but the narrator speaks so slowly and softly that the audible version will put you to sleep within 5 minutes.

San Francisco

A story placed in San Francisco in 1899-1900 which tells of the sorted past. Wonderful twists and turn and the story has just begun.

hard to listen to

the story is powerful and full of emotion but the narrator was not compelling. The characters were better but still not quite right.
