Good for a quick start in French Conversations

If you could sum up French Verb Drills Mega Bundle in three words, what would they be?

Jumpstart your french

What was one of the most memorable moments of French Verb Drills Mega Bundle?

It's really helpful that this audiobook is designed for you to practice verbally so you can repeat it after the narrator as he adds a pause for practice.

What about Frederic Bibard’s performance did you like?

He's French and he says it 2 ways, how its supposed to be said slowly and how french people actually say it which is very quickly so the words blend together a bit. Its a different sound and important for oral comprehension.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Its 16 hours of grammar so its best to study it over time.

Any additional comments?

I really like that he begins with the verbs that are used the most in conversation in French. I would highly suggest using the website or emailing for the free PDF as French is often spelled differently than pronounced.

Great way to brush up on French!

I’ve studied French for many years in the past in school, but I haven’t gotten the opportunity to practice and speak French regularly. This was a good way to brush up on things I knew already and learn new things as well. The detailed explanation and clear pronunciation from the speaker keeps me interested. What’s great about repeating after the speaker is that you get to eventually conjugate the verbs very naturally without having to put in the effort of thinking and going through all the different tenses and subjects to figure out what conjugation to use, which is something that I've always had a lot of trouble before.

Great book

This book was very helpful in learning french. I am a beginner in french, but the book’s method of teaching was very helpful. The voice was very clear, and having lessons that were slow and fast helped me understand the language better for pronunciation and practical usage. Would recommend this book!

Great idea, but poor execution

The structure of this program is good, but the narrator is shoddy in his execution:

* Often does not allow for adequate gap before blurting out the answer

* Seems to be guessing at some of the English equivalents, like how to explain the imparfait tense and the passe compose (was [verb]+ing vs [verb]+ed)

* Regularly forgets to differentiate "il/elle" from "ils/elles". This is important because each form corresponds to a different answer, but the forms sound identical. The listener needs to be given the additional information "singulier" or "pluriel" to answer correctly. He regularly forgets to provide this, so you have a 50% chance of getting it wrong.

It would have been nice to have had the participresent and passe present broken out as separate items to test on. Also not sure any value is provided in his "fast pronunciation" section for each verb form: he pronounces each answer so quickly as to be nearly comical. Yes, French speakers can have a fast speaking rate, but his normal rate of speaking is sufficient without taking up so much time giving an exaggerated telling to the listener.

Ceci etant dit, I'm glad I bought this. Good to have something going like this in the car to help me get my verbs down to an automatic response level.

Super handy

I had to do a couple of language credits for college and I had a little trouble getting higher than a 'C'.  A friend of mine recommended this book and it bumped me up to A-.

The book is really thorough in covering conjugation and conversations.  The narration is calm and comprehensive. I was able to listen and practice doing chores, during commute and just before bed.  I'd recommend to anyone from beginners to even experts in the French language.

Very Soothing and Productive

FORMAT
Ok, I’ve used workbooks and short stories and apps, but now I see why people in movies are always learning languages on headphones. It makes so much more sense to be hearing and speaking the language in drills rather than zoning out over a wall of text on a page.
I typically listen to podcasts or audiobooks in the car, but this will definitely be I the rotation now to feel like I’m accomplishing something on my daily commute. Traffic didn’t even bother me listening to this, I just felt so proud of myself working on a language in that time.

CONTENT
This goes over the most often used French verbs in each verb tense with positive and negative form (être, aller, faire, voir, etc). At first it will feel very French 101, but as you start to get into some of the more complicated verb tenses you’ll feel like “wow I completely forgot about these and I’m glad I’m drilling them.”
I was most impressed at the seamless inclusion of a little more colloquial ways of pronouncing them (“je suis” like “schwy”, “tu es” like “t’es”).
Usually that’s a big problem learning textbook languages, but he includes the quicker more casual real everyday French pronunciations in the drills.

NARRATION
Frederic Bibard could read me bedtime stories and I would drift right off. He should work for meditation apps. His voice and French accent were soo calming and soothing on my drive from work, I didn’t even notice or care about idiot drivers. Also listening to French lessons from an ACTUAL French
person is indispensable.

Keeps the Listener in mind throughout!

His voice was calm and had a genuine french feel. You knew throughout thr book that you were being taught true french conjugation, and even jargon. I love most that he would slow down in order to let you hear the individual sounds needed for repetition, and then how he would say it with thr correct fluency, to make the listener sound as if they were from France! The breadth of necessary conjugations and sentences DEFINITELY makes it worth the purchase :)

Any additional comments?

I have purchased some of this author’s materials in the past for improving my French and furthering my independent language studies. I wasn’t disappointed with the purchase of this extensive audio book. In addition to being able to use these drills as a daily practice tool, it’s also very nice that the book comes with a free PDF version for reference and study outside of my daily commute. Some of the things I really appreciated about this particular audio book is the author’s use of the target language while introducing and discussing the verbs and drills. He doesn’t do this exclusively, which makes it accessible to beginning learners; however, the author’s philosophy of immersive language learning is still demonstrated in his approach here. I also found the use of the verbs in the drills and their explanations to be very helpful for improving my French for everyday speech and general usage. In short, I highly recommend this audio book for beginner and intermediate users seeking to work on their verb skills in French!

Great For French Learners!!

This is a wonderful way to work on important verbs and their conjugations in French!! I took French a couple years ago and I could not believe some of the stuff that I had forgotten that I was reminded of thanks to this audiobook! It's also super easy to use because, duh!, it's an audiobook, so you can listen to it while doing anything, and even if you know how to WRITE French, if you're not very adequate at SPEAKING it, this audiobook will definitely help!

Must-have for serious french learners

First, the author sends a huge document with the contents of these verb drills to you for free if you email him.

Second, I have been able to apply these in everyday speech so easily as I practice (in Quebec). It feels as if I am just absorbing these as the style is so practical, it does not take extra effort beyond verbally participating to learn the correct verbs.

This audiobook is an excellent investment and as important as my french classes, themselves.
