This was the idea used to create a nation of free individuals equally protected by law, and it is still the basis of many democracies today.

La Marseillaise is a revolutionary song meant to mobilize all citizens in courage and solidarity. It was first used as a rally against European monarchs, who tried to smother the French Revolution by invading the country; they were successfully defeated.
