She Was Wild; He Was Trouble!

Good story, but narration stole the show, and helped boost the overall rating from 3 to 4 stars. I find stories with mixed reviews tend to have the more intriguing plots, and while Four Letter Word wasn't as intense, or drama filled as other audiobooks, the plot was interesting and held my attention. I liked how J. Daniels takes the concept of calling the wrong number, develops a plot and runs with it. Sydney's wrong call turns into a few innocent back and forth texts with Brian, and they quickly fall into routine of texting, and talking. They flirt, tell secretes, and even come with cute nicknames for each other. It's implied they will never see each other, until the night Brian watches his friend from across the parking lot stop three women from committing vandalism and he recognizes Sydney, his nightly phone call obsession. Brian can't believe Sydney's actually in the same town. She wasn't able to see him across the parking lot and doesn't know just how close they really are, but seeing Sydney changes everything for him.

Brian has been living a double life that has been weighing on him. While he is part owner in a surfer shop, he takes side jobs in the adult industry to earn extra cash fast for someone who he unintentionally hurt. Only handful of his friends know Brian's secrete, and why he's consumed with guilt. As Sydney and Brain develop deeper feelings, he starts to regret his decision to work for Ecstasy, and quits his "dirtier" job, but secretes always have a way of coming out.

The narration really made this story! Both Kate Russell and Sebastian York's performance was awesome!

Overall, decent plot, and good character development. I liked the secondary characters just as much as Brian and Sydney and look forward to their story, Hit the Spot in the Dirty Deeds series.

Awesome narrorators!

I've never written a review, but I always read the reviews.
The reviews for this book discouraged me because of the bad female narrorator comments. I'm glad I decided I just couldn't pass up a Sebastian York book regardless.
Kate Russell does a fine job co-narrorating.
I enjoyed the book as well as both narrorators.

This is a DUAL narration!

Beware, this is a dual narration with a female narrator that leaves much to be desired. The first chapter of her reading was all I could take so I find myself skipping chapters just to get to the parts with Sebastian York. I returned this one because I realized how stupid it was to be listening to half a book when I paid for a whole book! The story has potential and if they weren't so dishonest in putting Sebastian York's name as the ONLY narrator, MAYBE I would have purchased the book after returning the audio version and read it instead. My suggestion to the author (since I believe this is a series) change the female narrator for the next book, Andi Arndt would have been a much better choice. I might try another book if the female narrator is different, better yet, have Mr York read the ENTIRE book as you alluded to.

Fated lovers

Four Letter Word is a clever and witty, completely original take on a romance. I love when characters have such distinct personalities that you know who is talking without knowing who is talking. Usually that is the benefit of narration, however I know it would have been obvious even without the narrators.

J Daniels created so much sympathy and empathy and concern for her characters that I genuinely cared what was going to happen next as if they were my friends. I was totally lost in this world.

Although Sebastian is the only narrator listed, this is, indeed, a dual narrative. However Sebastian, in my opinion, is the only reason to keep listening. The female narrator was the wrong choice for me. Her tone and follow through was too old and matronly for the character. I didn't enjoy listening to intimate scenes because she felt like my mom basing it on voice alone. She is an extremely talented narrator and most definitely has a place in the narrative world, I just felt as though this book was the wrong fit and Sebastian York was the wrong partner for her.

Sebastian was perfection, but always is and plays the manly roles with an expertise that is enviable.

So much more than I expected! Great listen!

This is the first time I have read the work of J. Daniels, but it will not be the last.

This story was entertaining, if not altogether believable in parts. Sebastian York as the male performance was his stellar self and Kate Russell also did a very good job.

I have seen mixed reviews on this listen and I hesitated before purchasing, but I am glad I did. Although the first half of the book is based on a developing relationship with a broken hearted Sydney who runs to her best friend who is also going through a break up. Sydney decides to make a call to defend her friend and ends up with the "wrong number". She is mortified. The mistaken callee (Brain) is intrigued by Sydney and decides to form a "phone friendship."

This is where the story begins to take a weird turn for me. Brian is trying to atone for a mistake in his past that he believes himself to be wholly responsible for. To help "fund" and "make up" for said transgression he performs for a porn site. He did not exactly try to keep his identity a secret and his closest friends know, but as he develops a deeper relationship with Sydney, he attempts to keep it a secret. To his credit he did quit his online "performing". I had a hard time believing this was the only way he could earn enough money to help out in the way he thought he should, but it was the authors story to tell and who am I to judge the vehicle she chooses to use.

All in all this was a good story. It unfolded and ended in an interesting manner and you were pulling for Syd and Brian to have their happily ever after. Personally, I do not think I could have gotten over the porn site thing ... but good for Syd for putting it behind her (so to speak and no pun intended).

I purchased this book with a credit and I am not sorry.

Unraveled

This book gets 3 stars because 1) I've always liked J. Daniels, 2) I want more on the secondary characters and 3) it did have a good start. Honestly, it was a 2 star read. A little over the half way point this story unravels. I grew extremely tired of the heroine's constant crying, unnecessary details and inner dialogue. It all wraps up to quick and neat for the drama that was created. I do look forward to more promising books in this series.

Biggest disappointment ever

What did you like best about Four Letter Word? What did you like least?

First off this is not narrated by Sebastian York only, Kate Russell worst narrator I have ever heard. Her male voice was the worst ever. The story is cute. Something I would actually read not listen.

What other book might you compare Four Letter Word to and why?

none. This has crazy mother, porn star boyfriends, cheating husbands, crazy waitress banter. That was awesome. misdialed numbers. One wild roller coaster I could not get off hoping her voice would get better.

What didn’t you like about Sebastian York’s performance?

Sebastian York is amazing that was the main reason why I bought this book I figured wow 12 hours of only Sebastian York amazing. Then she comes one what an F let down.If another book comes of this please use another female.

Did Four Letter Word inspire you to do anything?

Yes not piss of a waitress.

Sad, endless dialogue with very little plot

This book is not worth the credit. Even with decent narration this book drags for hours. The main story is completely predictable, the story is made up of guilt and angst concerning an accident and rash behavior. The dialogue is inconsistent; the resolution is depressing. A waste of time.

Meh

Kate Russell was an annoying narrator and the story was insanely long without having much substance. The idea of the story was good but the writing was very YA and sappy. Syd needed to buy stock in Kleenex and get her hormones checked!

Sebastian York was amazing, as usual.
