An objective, subjective and inspiring account

A readable and multifaceted exploration of one of the greatest men in history. Even if you criticize Churchill personaly you'll find a lot to like here.

Very informative.

I really liked this format. I learned so much about this complicated man who was multi- faceted. Nice easy pace to listen to.

Approachable!

As the author admits biographies of Churchill are intimidating. This is an approachable casual listen well worth the time to enjoy.

Great Content

I purchased this book based on Dan Carlin’s podcast. He was right, the content was outstanding. I had but one criticism and it’s big because this was an audible book, Mrs Rubin’s voice is not dynamic. I personally would have preferred someone else narrate the audible version.

Two-Sided look at Churchill

I really like a biographer that doesn't shy away from controversial information and/or problems that the subject of the biography is about, and yet also fairly represents that subject. Churchill was obviously not a perfect man, but he was probably the perfect man for the situation that 1940's Europe found itself in. Gretchen Rubin breaks down his life into neatly divided categories and gives both sides of those categories, leaving the reader to make his or her own conclusions. She's obviously a fan of Churchill, but doesn't ignore the more dubious aspects of his life. Her excitement in telling the story comes through nicely and highlights some nuances about him well. Very enjoyable listen.

Interesting biography format

Really enjoyed the format of the book. People are complicated, even famous historical people. She does an excellent job conveying the nuance of Winston Churchill.
