Publisher's summary

Eighteen-year-old Georgette Baine is a young pirate captain raised with utter disdain toward royalty. But when she and her twin brother, Captain Elias Baine, make a precarious deal with a king to gain access to a long-lost treasure, they find themselves in an untenable position. The king has tasked them with procuring stolen cargo under the watchful eye of his army commander, and Georgette is convinced they have been misled.

Mercy Landlight is a 19-year-old princess who has been sent to wed a king to secure political peace between his country and hers. A dutiful daughter of the crown, she would never question her brother's decree, until on her way to her new home, and husband, her journey is thwarted. The sparks of an unfamiliar romance cause Mercy to question everything she's been taught about herself, while Georgette strains to decide if she should continue the life path she was destined for, or entangle herself in a relationship that wouldn't offer her the same freedoms.

With enemies at every bend, this harrowing journey will alter the course of their lives and change the very foundation of who they are and what they've always believed.

Follow their seafaring pirate adventure in this YA fantasy romance!

4.25/5 Stars Excellent YA Pirate Adventure

4.25/5 Stars Fortune of Emerald and Salt by Munroe Wildrose

Narrated by Ali Dane

Run Time: 8 hrs and 34 min

Summary:

Georgette Baine and her twin brother, Elias, captain their own pirate ship, but they’ve made a deal with the devil (the king) to run errands for him from time to time. He asks them to fetch something precious that got stolen. They’re surprised to find it’s a pissed off princess named Mercy, who has been kidnapped on her way to wed the old king. Thus begins an odd friendship and an odder adventure.

Additional Comments:

· Some might take my complaints as compliments.

· 4/5 Stars Performance – Well handled. It took me a little time to distinguish between the voice used for Mercy and the voice used for Georgette’s passages. I would certainly listen to the narrator again.

· 4.5/5 Stars Plot and Conflict – The adventure proceeds. The friendships grow. Character conflicts are realistic-ish.

· 4/5 Plot Twists – First twist isn’t much of one, even though I hadn’t read the back cover copy, anybody could see the first twist coming a few dozen miles off. (Mercy = cargo) That’s not much of a spoiler given it’s on the back cover copy. The next two did pop up as surprising. I shall not name these for possible spoilers.

· 5/5 Stars Characters – Georgette and Elias Baine are the picture-perfect, swashbuckling pirates. Mercy goes through the greatest character arc. Absalom’s friendship with the pirates is sweet.

· 3.5/5 Stars Political mumbo jumbo – It took a long time to sort Southern Relis (forgive spelling, I heard the audio), Northern Relis, and wherever Absalom’s from. Who’s which king, who wants what, etc. I think that stuff will be more important in the next story, but it just sort of marred this one.

· 2/5 Stars Title Tie-in – I’m sure this makes sense at some point. Probably book 2. But right now, it’s like we need a vague, intriguing title that has nothing to do with the story, at all.

· 2/5 Stars Sense of Closure – There’s some effort to wrap up the current arcs, but it might has well end with a big, fat To Be Continued. That’s disappointing. It’s a good marketing ploy, but it also feels incomplete. Several character decisions don’t make much sense as is. (It’s vaguely deux ex machina.)

· 5/5 Stars Descriptions, Imaginations, World-building – Fantastic and fun.

Conclusion:

Yeah, my math doesn’t make sense. The I guess I’m lowering the weight of the things that bothered me because they won’t bother many people.

For ¾ of the book, I’d considered 5 stars until the disappointments at the end. That rarely happens. It’s not exactly a thing I pride myself on, it’s just I read a lot of stories.

It’s still a fun story that I would recommend to anybody who enjoys YA and pirate stories.

Fierce main character!

This book was a great listen. The narrator did a stellar job. I think the book itself could have done with a veteran editor, but it might be that I just couldn’t out my editor ears away while listening. The characters were strong, fascinating, and likable, which kept me invested!

Spectacular!

I want to write an eloquent review but I’m honestly so overcome that I cannot form words. 100/10 would recommend this book. The writing is superb and the storytelling is excellent. My friend, Becca, casually recommended this book and I’m so upset she didn’t insist I read it with more vehemence. I’m planning on buying this book for at least three people, as I feel like everyone I know needs to read this amazing story!

Holy cow, that was amazing!

Fantastic narration by Ali Dane to an absolutely incredible story! I had no idea where it was going and could not have predicted what happened if my life depended on it. Wow! Just wow. Loved it so much!

Could’ve been better

I thought it was going to be a lesbian pirate book but it’s not. I had already decided that I wasn’t going to continue the series but the end is making me buy the rest. It’s a good story.

I loved it!

I received a free audiobook version of this story from Monroe Wildrose, and I could not be more thankful because I was able to enjoy her amazing story because of it!

I have never been a fan of audiobooks. It reminded me too much of the YouTube recordings teachers would play in high school to go along with a class novel. But I was not about to pass up a free book, especially since it really caught my interest, and I had a feeling it would be amazing. BOY, WAS I RIGHT! Ali Dane's change in tone was enough to clearly let me know who was speaking without it sounding cheesy or overdone. It was perfect! It definitely changed my mind about audiobooks, that is for sure. Which is quite a feat, so I cannot give enough praise for it!

And it was the perfect accomplice to Monroe Wildrose’s beautifully written story! The scene setting, character development, plot. Everything was beautiful! I absolutely need to get this in a hard copy to add to my bookshelf. It is so wonderfully written; I felt like I was watching a movie as I listened. Georgette and Elias’s sibling relationship had me smiling. And the characters themself seemed so realistic. Sometimes I bang my head against the wall with “strong female leads” in books. And I was so happy to see that that was not the problem in this book! They were strong and determined without being annoying or causing problems with their stubbornness.

I absolutely loved the dual POV between the two female main characters, too! I was more of a fan of Georgette’s POV when the story started, but Mercy quickly stole my heart. Her point of view specifically had me falling in love with the characters in a different type of way. Honestly, my favorite part is her slow-building love for Elias. I truly felt like I was falling in love with him WITH her.

If you enjoy a pirate romance or are looking to get into one, definitely read these books!

Totally worth it

I loved this captivating tale, and the strong female leads. The book was filled with moments of laughter and sad, but also wasn’t predictable and left me wanting to find out what happens next! I really appreciated the author and the beautiful way the book was written. Easy to follow and believable conversations and experiences!

Beautiful

I have listened to this book twice this year! The narrator has a stunning voice that helps bring the world the author has written to vivid life! The two combined are PHENOMENAL

Fun pirate romance

A fun story with a brother & sister duo--pirate captains. I originally bought the paperback, then was offered an audiobook code. I enjoyed it even more in audiobook. The narrator does a great job with fitting the tone of the story, and even sings a sea shanty. The romance is cute, the political intrigue exciting. I've already bought the paperback of book 2, but I'm anxiously awaiting the audiobook release!

Amazing!!!

I literally finished this book today and I am lost in my emotions.

If you are looking for dasing pirates, both female and male, passionate romance, daring sword fights, and a princess who becomes her own hero then you need look no further than Fortune of Emerald and Salt by Monroe A. Wildrose.

I listened to the audiobook and the narration was so well done I was immediately lost in the story and sad when I had to leave.

Georgette and her brother Elias are twin pirate captains with hearts of gold. While they are in search of a treasure their parents were hunting for they make a deal with the king and must bring along Absalom, the only man that can keep Georgette's swashbuckling under control, not that he would, and pick up Mercy, a captured princess, along the way. They run into trouble, as one does at sea, but learn more about themselves and each other as their adventure takes them closer to their treasure and danger.
