Publisher's summary

The long-awaited memoir from John Fogerty, the legendary singer-songwriter and creative force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of the most important and beloved bands in the history of rock, and John Fogerty wrote, sang, and produced their instantly recognizable classics: "Proud Mary", "Bad Moon Rising", "Born on the Bayou", and more. Now he reveals how he brought CCR to number one in the world, eclipsing even the Beatles in 1969. By the next year, though, Creedence was falling apart; their amazing, enduring success exploded and faded in just a few short years.

Fortunate Son takes listeners from Fogerty's Northern California roots through Creedence's success and the retreat from music and public life to his hard-won revival as a solo artist who finally found love.

Love John, nuf said.

Who in their right mind would not want to hear the story of John? This was an amazing (yet somewhat tragic) story of one of the greatest song writers/performers in Rock and Roll history.
John, however, often sounded like he was reading someone else's story. This, one of the greatest story tellers of all time, sounded stiff telling his own story.
Loved the story, love the guy, virtually worship the music.

An excellent rock n roll odessy

I really enjoyed this book. Very interesting story. I highly recommend it! Just one complaint: a lot of time was spent talking about money & contract issues~anger n bitterness. That's all valid. It colud have taken half of the space it did and conveyed much the same message. Would have prefered to have more impressions on Woodstock, which pedals & technical gear info. and advice, what it is you like about a Maton guitar, etc.
Write another book!! :-)

A great story of never giving up on what you love

Great but sad story of betrayal of people you thought you can trust from family to friends. Sad to see such a great artist kept down by greedy people. I thought the story was honest and heartfelt. I love that he read it himself.

What a talent

If you could sum up Fortunate Son in three words, what would they be?

Thoughtful, kind, sincere

What did you like best about this story?

John tells his story from the heart, honestly and straightforward.

Any additional comments?

Insane that a talent such as John Fogerty didn't have the backing of band members who fully understood exactly who stood before them. Love his solo work, even Eye of the Zombie which John seems to be embarrassed to have produced (???). Had CCR stayed together, one can only imagine the music that could have been. His telling of their breakup is hard to read/listen to. You want to shake someone. Funny that John was CCR, yet had the least ego of them all. He's understandably a bit bewildered at what happened. I am too. That he hadn't the chance to flourish way back when is maddening.

Knowing is Better

I gave it a 3 on performance because though the history and story were great; John sounded as though he were reading the book to himself instead of “telling” us the story. It plays much better at one notch faster than 1.0 and I’m pretty sure that’s to the “Southern” in him for I too am a southerner and we all can have a drawl. All in all it was great to get the real story behind the collapse of CCR. I had no idea when he was bringing us so much joy he was in such pain. Loved Julie’s touch and love you too John! I highly recommend this book to music lovers of the era!

Great book

Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in CCR or John Fogerty. Very honest and interesting. Didn't get the feeling he held much back. Kept me listening and wanting more. Bottom line excellent book just like John's music, a work of art.
