Publisher's Summary

Bestselling, award-winning author Marc Alan Edelheit delivers this second action-packed fantasy epic in the Karus Saga.

Surrounded by an army of Celts and facing certain destruction, the Ninth Imperial Legion, one of Rome’s most powerful military formations, has been unexpectedly transported to the world of Tannis. The legion, now under the command of Camp Prefect Karus, finds itself lost in a strange land. Cut off from everything they have known, they find temporary shelter in the abandoned city of Carthum.

They quickly learn an unholy army of orcs, goblins, trolls, and humans known as the Horde is on the march, sweeping across the face of Tannis like a dark tide, conquering one land at a time. No force upon this world has been able to withstand the armies of the enemy. Yet the Horde has never met the might of Rome, and Karus means to fight.

In the dungeons under the palace, Amarra, last of the faithful, is found. Together they are visited by Jupiter himself and given a series of dangerous tasks that sets them on the path of destiny. The first is to recover the dread sword Rarokan the Soul Breaker from the Fortress of Radiance. But the sword has a will of its own, and the enemy will stop at nothing to get the dangerous relic.

Aided by the dragons Cyln’phax and Kordem, Karus and Amarra must set out on a perilous journey to the Fortress of Radiance to bring back the dread sword. Should they fail and the enemy get to it first, all will be lost.

Enjoyable experience😊

A Roman legion finds its self on another world 🌎 . Working for a god to stop the evil hord from destroying the different races and the planet. Good Dragon s , evil orcs, evil worms (a type of dragon), elves and humans battle it out in this adventure. Very enjoyable story.

Very exciting

This book was somewhat different from book one in that it introduced a new array of characters and races to the Romans. There was never a dull moment in this adventure as the two main characters were forced to travel to obtain a special sword that would assist them in their fight against the hoard. It also opened new insights and frustrations as they had to battle the dislike between the races and their unwillingness to work with the humans to defeat the enemy.

Outstanding writing and excellent narration.

A lot of back history

I have enjoyed all three book series by Marc Alan Edelheit thus far and consider them very refreshing to some of the other books in this genre that often repeat the same premise. In relationship to the previous titles by Marc, Fortress of Radiance has much more back story and dialogue than previous books and therefore provides a glimpse into the authors foresight and direction to the world he is creating. However, more dialogue seems to have translated into less action packed or climactic story-line that I've come to enjoy in this series - this is why I've ranked Radiance lower than the previous titles.

I still recommend the book, just understand it is a bit of a different direction than previous titles in my opinion.

Nice job Marc!

expecting more it took a while to engross myself in the world of tan is, but the writer draws you in with new characters and plots subtly, and once again leaves me praying for more with a marvellously cryptic epilogue.
