Brilliant, just brilliant!

I loved Chains, the companion book to Forge. Laurie Halse Anderson does a brilliant job of believable storytelling, incorporating accurate historical details and giving the characters believable voices and dialog. She really brought the winter camp at Valley Forge to life for me. She brought actual people, like George Washington, into the story in ways that didn't fictionalize actual history. I hope you write more historical fiction, Laurie Halse Anderson! I listened to the audio version, and loved the voice actor's telling of the story. I could listen to Tim Cain all day, and was sorry when the book was finished. Now if I could just get more than one student in my high school to read it!

Rip off

I don't know why this is happening or if anyone else is having this problem but it is only showing one chapter to listen to. Why did I pay like $17 for one chapter!?!?

Another great story of the American Revolution

Too often the effect of the Revolutionary War on those men, women, and children who lived through it as slaves is not looked at. Ms Anderson has weaved a wonderful look at that aspect of American history. This is the second book I've read in the trilogy, and I look forward ti reading the third as soon as possible.

Excellent "living history" book!

This book is so well written and a great work of historical fiction. There are a few curse words and romantic references. I fee it most appropriate for a middle to high schooler, geared toward boys.
My boys are history enthusiasts and know all of the Generals and battles mentioned.
It does reveal the harsh conditions our rebels endured and the even harsher realities of Slavery.
You are always in the edge of your seat and can never predict what's next.
Great read, especially to solidify studies of the revolutionary war.
