Publisher's Summary

From bestselling author, Rose Pressey, comes Forever Charmed, the first book in an all new series!

Halloween LaVeau is descended from a long line of witches. Yes, her name is Halloween. The cosmic universe is definitely playing some kind of sick joke on her. She's the ultimate witch cliche, complete with a black cat and spooky house. Thank heavens she's missing the warts and flying broom.

When Halloween inherits her great aunt's manor, she decides to put the house to good use as a bed and breakfast. Her first guest is the sinfully good-looking Nicolas Marcos, but he's not here for the continental breakfast. Halloween discovers a ratty old book in the attic. It's written in an unfamiliar language.

Halloween soon learns this is not an ordinary spellbook. The tome brings her a new talent, but her new skills come with a catch. When a rival witch comes after the book, Halloween doesn't know who to trust - the sexy vampire who says he wants to save the day, or the warlock who says he can destroy the book once and for all.

Funny

Where does Forever Charmed rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favorites

What other book might you compare Forever Charmed to and why?

cross between Molly Harpers Halfmoon hollow series and Kristen Painters Nocturne Falls

Which scene was your favorite?

When Halloween used a spell to make herself look like Nicholas to see if she could get info from Liam.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I did listen to all of it in one day.

Any additional comments?

I have found a new series. I had added this to my kindle as a free book. I saw it had whispersync so i bought it. Glad i did. This story is about a witch named Halloween. Her magic is not all that great. She inherits a house(creepy house} from her great aunt. She decides to make it a bed and breakfast. While cleaning out the attic she finds a spell book but it is in a language she cannot read{except when it wants her too}, Later she is awaken in the middle of the night by a handsome man looking for a place to stay because he has car problems. (Nicholas). Then later on another handsome man shows up to stay at her bed and breakfast. (Liam) They seem to have some animosity towards each other but each claim they do not know each other. Each one warns her to not trust the other. Which one can she trust? Both or neither. Since she found the book her magic improves. What is this mysterious book? Sometimes a spell appears. Of course she has to try it. I recommend this book and i look forward to reading more

Potential ... but

**maybe spoiler**

Inconsistencies or I was just confused about stuff. Like just because she did what she did by the river means she accepted the role? what did she actually really do by the river. what was the significance of the light being yellow rather than white. what was the only spell she knew that saved her. her aunt by the grave. didn't resolved the other ghost situation. why was she afraid of them to that extreme? no explanations as to why Nick was so chummy with the enemy and she can easily look past it especially after her violent reactions to see it. why was his eyes glossy what was the significance of telling us that. sigh

Lame reasons why the drama was there in the first place especially between the guys, her and each guy and her and both the guys together. I don't see why they couldn't have told her that. and each time she asked them stuff their responses were insulting making her look like a fool. why keep it from her to that extreme then so easily tell her right at the end.

Narration didn't help it. Changing the voices per person was good but fluctuations and feelings behind the phrases and sentences wasn't on point.

Her saying the guys name so much while she was talking to them or inner monolog when we already know who she's with and what she's doing was annoying.

Seems like there were many unanswered questions and if there were answers it didn't live up to the story or too vague.

uggg

Would you be willing to try another one of Saskia Maarleveld’s performances?

This book wasn't bad... but the reader, OMG! She was the worst narrator that I have ever come across! I couldn’t even finish the book via audible, I had to read it myself. Her intonation was weird and she seemed to end every sentence with over exaggeration it was very annoying and it really took away from the story. At first I thought this isn’t interesting at all, but when I stopped listening to this narrators bizarre reading of the story and read it on my own then I got in to it. I don’t usually leave reviews and I haven’t ever thought oh no this narrator totally ruined the story, but this one did and I just had to say something.

OK

Although it could use a better narrator, it was pleasant enough for a drive to the city and back. OK

SKIP IT

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This was poorly written, even the cliché's were wrong-i.e. "he out did himself" she said about his cooking, when they had just met...the list goes on. The performance was horrible, simple sentences were misinterpreted and/or made dramatic! BAD all around.

Great Story.. ehhhh Narration

Rose Pressey is always a hit for me. Fun, witty, have a horrible time putting them down!! I was intrigued to say the least about how they would come out in audiobook.

I think it's a personal preference, but I could barely listen to Saskia Maarleveld, the heavy breathing did me in VERY quickly. I wanted to just go back and read it myself. Also from reading other books, I suppose I had a very distinct idea of what it should sound like, and I thought the narrator sounded WAY too old for the character!

so-so story made worse by bizarre narration

What disappointed you about Forever Charmed?

The heorine is pretty unlikable, largely due to headslapping stupidity most of the time. The entire story would fall apart if she had at any point did the reasonably smart thing.

But the worst of it was the narration. The narrator is cursed without a sense of where the emphasis belongs in a sentence, and clearly believes that there's no such thing as overdramatization. Every sentence is overwrought and the heroine's friend Annabelle sounds like a mental case; every single utterance sounding like she's teetering on the brink of insanity.

Then, the 'hunky' male characters sounded like creepy middle aged bankers so much so that I was at least a quarter way thru when I figured out these old dudes were part of a love triangle. Ick.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Saskia Maarleveld?

Mary Robinette Kowal

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It is a light read, and maybe teens or people who aren't looking for something marginally sensible will like it, but if they choose reading, not listening.

Cheesy

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It's a good premise for a book, and I love stories with witches (which is why I chose this book), but it is poorly written.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character is a young, horny, and rather dumb lady.

What three words best describe Saskia Maarleveld’s performance?

The narrator is good with voices, however she does not help to detract from the cheesiness of the writing

Was Forever Charmed worth the listening time?

It was not the worst book I ever read, but it was not the best either.

Great story but....

This was a great book but where is the rest of the series? I was hooked from the moment it started and finished within a day. However, this is the first book of 5 please please please put the rest on here.
