Publisher's summary

In the year 2050, Earth makes first contact. By 2052, the war is over. We lose.

As a development platform for desperately needed advanced technology, the experimental starship Foresight is the greatest hope humankind has to flee the alien hordes. For test pilot Captain Nicholas Shepherd, the success of the program is even more personal. Successful completion means delivering his wife and son safely off-world and leaving the war behind for good. But when Foresight suffers a critical malfunction during her final scheduled flight, what should have been a minor setback becomes a major fight for survival.

With his family caught in the crossfire, Nicholas realizes that the flawed starship offers the best chance to escape. It isn’t long before even the frantic evacuation turns sideways, and he discovers that not only is the war harder to get away from than he thought, but Foresight is more than just a prototype.

Much, much more.

Joined by an unintended crew of survivors, Nicholas is about to embark on an impossible mission that will take them far beyond the outer reaches of space. If he fails, humankind won’t just be lost.

We’ll be completely erased.

Was pleasantly surprised with this book, great job! I didn’t know Dave Jackson before this, but he did a real good job. The realization of this prequel helped explain other things. we’ll done!

Sounds whiny

Narration frequently make’s characters sound like they are whining and I do not believe that is the intent of the author.

5 Stars

As with all M.R. Forbes books, the storyline is captivating. Every chapter leaves you eager to find out if Captain Nicholas and his crew will be able to save Foresight, and themselves. As an avid reader, I’ve listened to several audio books by Dave Jackson and have always been impressed. His voice brings this story to life. He manages to bring out each character’s personality and has the perfect accents for them all. I’m already looking forward to listening to him narrate the rest of the Forgotten Space series. Strongly Recommend this audiobook to any science fiction fan.

A new twist on a great storyline.

The Earth is lost. Humanity's only hope of survival is to board ark ships and travel to distant stars, one ship for each possible exoplanet. If only there were some way to scout ahead and get back in time to let them know which were habitable, and which were DEAD ends.
That's where Foresight comes in. But even if it can be finished before the Trife overrun them, can Nick Shepherd escape an even greater menace? And can he figure it out in time to save his son?

Never got me hooked

I'm a big fan of M.R. Forbes books and have finished multiple series. I'm also a fan of the narrator but I just couldn't get into this book like I have his others. I finished book 6 of starship for sale and wanted to try this series before going on to book 7 but ended up getting book 7. The same author and narrator but I'm hooked on the series. I should have started with this series and went on to his others. When I run out of other M.R. Forbes books I'll revisit this one.

YA

All the stuff Amazon tells you to do so you can pick a book. Amazon try this one where appropriate add YA (young adult). I’m 60 and not the target audience. Quit the book when it was apparent.

It was going great until the English Accents

I was really intrigued by the story line and where it might go as I listened intently to the work of an author I had enjoyed before when narrated by RC Bray!

That was until the Narrator spent the next few chapters channelling his best Mary Poppins’!

His attempt at an British accent is woeful; The people around Battersea Power station (south west (posh) London), all spoke with cockney ‘Mary Poppins Era’ Accents!! It was so bad that some of the American charters he was playing started to have a little British twinge abs the end of their sentences too!

It’s that bad I’m questioning wether I should continue listening… the only thing making me reconsider is the hope that the story quickly takes us away from london and Mary and the Gang!!
