Publisher's summary

Roseline Enescue didn't ask to become an immortal, to have all of the guests at her wedding slaughtered, or to be forced into marriage with a man whose lust for blood would one day ignite the vampire legend.

Willing to risk everything for a chance at a normal life, Roseline escapes to America. But her transition into the human world isn't easy. Mortal men flock after her while cutthroat girls plot her demise. Yet she remains relatively unfazed until she meets Gabriel Marston. As their lives entwine, Roseline realizes he is more than he seems. His ability to grind concrete into dust pales in comparison to the glowing cross tattoo that mysteriously appears on his forearm.

Despite the forbidden bond between them, Roseline can't help wondering what Gabriel is. He's not human. He's not immortal. So just what is he?

Great start!!

New to me author and I decided to give this series a try. I absolutely love it so far!
This book is YA Paranormal and at times I want to yell at Rose & Gabriel for being immature but what good book doesn’t make you want to yell at the characters!
I love how clean this series was and I definitely come to love several of the characters in this series. Fast paced and moving along to book #2. //audible listen//I truly enjoyed the narrator as well. She brought the story to a whole another level.

On the edge of my seat!

I loved this story. It was refreshing to read a vampire book from a girl's perspective. I can't wait to read the next one in the trilogy. It was beautifully written and I didn't hate the characters like some other vampire books I have read. If you enjoyed the Twilight series, you will like this one!

loved it !##

I listened to the prequel first desolate and savage which gives a complete back round on the story between Rose and Vlad as well as how she became what she is. I was able to truly understand why she hated her husband as much as she did because it examines first hand the abuse she went through. Then I moved on to this book which was excellent and continues on . I definitely think this is worth a credit. I loved the narrator she is excellent.

Jessica Almasy was AMAZING.

This is my first book of Amy Miles and my first audiobook narrated by Jessica Almasy.

First, the narrator. OMG! Jessica did a phenomenal job with this. Her accents, her excitement, just everything made this story leap from my speakers. I cannot wait to snag other audiobooks she has done.

Last, but certainly not least, the author. Amy Miles weaves the traditional story of Vladimir into a modern day story that leaps from the pages. Despite including some of the original Dracula lore, this is a fantastic and unique story. I enjoyed so much that I immediately ordered the remaining books!

Really Enjoyed This Series Start

I haven't read any Amy Miles novels before. This one started off slow, which is why I don't normally read Young Adult fiction. However, it picked up fairly quickly and I ended up really enjoying the story. I'm actually looking forward to the next novel in the series. Goes to show we should be open to trying new genres.

Good read

A little slow at first (or at least for me). But, then the story line picks up and it gets really good. I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens.

Wow!!!!

I was told how good this series was but...wow!

I had my doubts but this book was awesome. It's got the right amount of angst, mystery, and longing. I know it's YA but any age would love it.

Rose and Gabriel have a magnetic attraction. But there are so many issues...

1. her vampire husband
2. she's hiding
3. her vampire husband's sick sadistic tendencies
4. he's human
5. her vampire husband's blood thirst

Did I mention the vampire husband?

It's fun, sweet, and addictive. I had trouble seperating myself from the story. (I mean who wants to adult when you can follow creepy stalker kids watching...yeah, you will need to read it to undersrand.)

I can't wait to dive into the rest of the series!!!

Cliche High School Romance

First of all, I really wanted to like this book it started interesting with a new take on the whole vampire legend. Buttttttt I am now maybe three hours in and oh my lord what a cliché, with eye rolling, laugh out loud ridiculous "romance". I am stopping at this point in the book, I just cant take it. I mean come on, she's goes missing for three weeks and the love interest (misunderstood high school quarter back...eye roll) finds her through there "hormones" connection (eye roll) in a motel room and basically asks are you coming to my game tonight and by the way my dad grounded me....really!!! Any ways its not for me but maybe for a 14 year old. On a side note I thought the narrator was good!

Not recommended

I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this book. I took a chance on it when it didn't have any customer reviews yet.

The majority of the book is set in Chicago, focusing on the drama of high school football, dating, jealousy, house parties, shopping, parents, etc. Of course every guy is pulled towards the main character and no one can resist her. I've seen this in other books, but in this case, it's even more extreme. In one case a mob of men and boys are about to attack her because she's letting off pheromones while dancing, and of course, she's sooo beautiful.

Her husband (vampire) is so abusive, he beats her over and over until she's almost dead each time. This only happens in the very beginning and again towards the end, but still very disturbing. Her supposed best friend and lover knows this, but still tries to convince her to go back home to her husband to face this violence. What? Then he feels guilty after the inevitable happens and forces her to escape again. What?

The last quarter of the book takes place back in Romania with the vampires and vampire hunters, but it's so ridiculous I'm laughing out loud. (It's not supposed to be funny.) I gave up with only an hour or so left, so I don't know what happens at the very end. I can't believe I made it as far as I did, but I kept hoping it would get better. There's no way I would have made it that far if I was reading the print version.

The narrator was fine. My only complaint with her was near the end when they have several Romanian voices speaking, I couldn't tell who was who because they all sounded the same.

I think this book should be in the young teen category. Most of it is quite juvenile, though the beatings from her husband might make it inappropriate for that.
