Publisher's summary

After years spent fighting alongside King Richard in the crusades, Lord Edmund of Hawksford is finally returning to his ancestral home. But far from a joyful reunion, what awaits him is devastation. His elder brother is dead, killed in a tragic fire at Hawksford Castle - and the title of duke now falls to Edmund.

When he strives to rebuild the fire-scarred castle, Edmund learns that his was not the only life the fire shattered: His childhood friend Lady Phillipa survived the flames that took Edmund’s brother, but, badly burned, she has hidden herself away from those she loves. Yet as the pair renews their acquaintance, they find that their affection runs deep - perhaps even deeper than they’d ever realized.

As Edmund and Pippa begin to question whether the fire was truly an accident, they must discover the truth of the past before they can plan for their future. While coming perilously close to the answers they seek, Edmund and Pippa find themselves at the mercy of a dangerous foe who will stop at nothing to lay claim on Hawksford - and he will destroy any who stand in his way.

Great Medieval Story

I really enjoyed this Medieval story! It reminded me a bit of Robin Hood because Lord Edmund is returning from the crusades and finds things very different at home. Pippa is a strong female character as is Maid Marian. I really liked our main characters and thought this story was well-written. I liked the pacing of the novel and found it fast paced and entertaining! I am excited to read more by this author and highly recommend for fans of Robin Hood/The Middle Ages. 4.5

wonderful and clean.

I love this book, it's a clean read I love the history of the March lands between England and Wales. the one negative I have is that I don't think all the ends we're tired up.

Fantastic!

Great story with a strong love story. There was historical drama, but it wasn't super confusing and the author did a great job explaining without making me feel like I was reading a text book. I loved Edmund and Pippa. I appreciated their history so it didn't feel like a love st first sight book. It felt like settling into a comfortable spot.

The narrator did a great job. I struggled with her Welsh accent. It sounded very Indian to me, so that was hard. But other than that she did great.

Double Whammy!!

This was my first full length novel by Sian Ann Bessey. I was a little worried when I learned the time period, but was quickly drawn in by the depth of the characters, a well crafted story, and attention. to descriptive detail. This was the first whammy.

Whammy #2 was a superb narration by Aubrey Warner. She put so much into her portrayal of each character and was integral to the flow of the story.

Thanks to both of these artists for time well spent and enjoyed so mucg!!

Captivating tale

I am greatly impressed with the storytelling ability of Ms. Bessey. She weaves her characters into the actual events of the time. she has a masterful ability to help you understand the dynamics of the times.

Waste of a credit

This is a history book, not a novel. It was just incredibly tedious and boring. I love to read but I couldn’t slog through it.
