Publisher's Summary

Graeme Souness is a Glasgow Rangers icon and a Liverpool legend in the same bracket as Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

He has racked up getting on for 50 years in and around the world of professional football. The game has been his life and his enduring passion.

Souness has written a perceptive and opinionated autobiography. It chronicles one of the most successful and colourful careers in the history of British football. But it also provides an intriguing assessment of the game which has dominated his existence, drawing extensively on his incredibly rich and varied experiences as a player, manager and pundit.

The result is a shrewd, incisive and hard-hitting memoir, at times tinged with hindsight and regret, which also grapples with many of the major talking points affecting the game today. It is shot through with Souness' trademark tenacity and wisdom and with fantastic anecdotes from his glittering career.

In many ways, Football: My Life, My Passion is the story of the last half century of British football writ large.

Not what I was expecting

I was really looking forward to this book but was left disappointed. Too little detail for such a distinguished playing career and lengthy managerial career. Glosses over massive achievements and historic nights and spends too much time meandering about his general thoughts on the state of the game today and current players.

honest and suprisingly reflective

this is a well narrated book by the legendary captain of Liverpool and Scotland. He is typically forthright about his time as a player and later as a manager and is rightly proud of his success both on the pitch and the dugout. I was surprised to find a level of reflection and candidness about his troubled spell as Liverpool manager and later at Newcastle and some of the reasons he laid out were reasonable. All in all a very enjoyable book by a man who whatever view you take of his personality was one of the best midfielders ever.

Not the best book

Alot of the book is about Souness trying to justify himself for his past actions. Tends to waffle about things too much and just only skims on stories. Was expecting more.
