This audiobook really hits the spot in balancing humor and information. The rules and positions of football are clearly explained, and the narration by Jack Hicks makes it all the more interesting to listen to!

Funny and helpful!

Can't wait for football season so I can watch a game and actually understand what is happening.. This book gave me a greater appreciation for the complexity and skill involved. The narration was very good.

Taught me a lot!

I'm a nerd, and don't care much for sports. But Klein's book shows me and other geeks that football isn't just for meatheads. It's intensely physical, yes, but first and foremost it's a tactical game. Will I start watching football regularly? Probably not. But it gives me a little more understanding and compassion for how the other half live. Okay, let's be honest, the other nine tenths.

A great introduction to football

I picked up several insights as I breezed through the book the first time. I will need to listen to it several more times to help me better understand the game of football. The information was delivered an interesting manner and the narrator was enjoyable to listen to, thank you!

I will listen at least yearly

Been a fan for 50+ years, but learned new things. An enjoyable read. Worth your time. You'll learn new things.

Informative and Enjoyable.

This book covers the basics nicely. I realized that I a cynically know more hugs. I thought about football. The strengths of this book are that it provides good basic information in an easy to understand format and the author intersperses it with humor. The main weakness in the book for me was that parts were repetitive; I personally would have liked explanations of some of the intricacies of the game, but since this is an intro book, I can see why this isn't included.

Easy Intro

Overall, I thought highly of the book. I bought it for my teen and tween sons who've recently gotten interested in watching football with me. They have very little overall knowledge of the game and I think they got a lot out of it, though they said they did have trouble paying attention at times (and they are die hard audiobook listeners). I got it on the Daily Deal and at that price it is hard to go wrong.

I did have two negatives about it. For me, a long time (but not serious) fan, it didn't do much to help me with all the questions I have when watching the game, so I'm not sure someone like me is the target audience. More importantly, I don't think this is the best medium to learn how to follow a football game. Watching a game with commentary -- or watching the pregame show for the Superbowl right now -- does more to explain what is going on, since it comes with visuals.

In sum, I think this book works best for a near novice, who wants to listen something to understand the basics when not watching a game. For a person who doesn't want to interrupt the fans in their life with dumb questions, this might be perfect.

Decent intro to football for the near-novice

Presentation is good but for non USA citizens hard to understand. I get the book since I want to understand the game better but it does not deliver completely. Sometimes too much detail, sometimes too little.

OK book

Would you consider the audio edition of Football 101 to be better than the print version?

No. Best part was the narration.

What did you like best about this story?

As an American Football newbie learned a lot from this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's a short book, so was able to listen in a day with some breaks.

Fun to listen while learning

He mentions a number of advanced concepts without elaborating, telling you to watch more football to learn what they mean. Also, very fast-paced intro where terms are used without an explanation of what they mean. But, I did learn a few things. I think I'm at the point of football understand where I wasn't affected by the fast paced intro and not at such an advanced understanding that I learned nothing. Maybe not a great book for absolute beginners and those who have been watching football for many years.

Short, but did learn a few things
