Publisher's Summary

"In Fool's Errand, Scott Horton masterfully explains the tragedy of America's longest war and makes the case for immediate withdrawal. I highly recommend this excellent book on America's futile and self-defeating occupation of Afghanistan." - Daniel Ellsberg, Pentagon Papers whistleblower and author of Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers

"The real story of the disastrous US war in Afghanistan must be written so that future generations may understand the folly of Washington's warmongers. Scott Horton's Afghan war history is an important contribution to this vital effort." - Ron Paul, M.D., former US congressman and author of Swords into Plowshares: A Life in Wartime and a Future of Peace and Prosperity

Amazing History the Afghanistan War

Would you listen to Fool's Errand: Time to End the War in Afghanistan again? Why?

Yes, it condenses just about every book on the subject into a excellent overview of the war.

What did you like best about this story?

The truth about General Dostum, and how we worked with him. (I say, "truth," because other books portray him as a freedom fighter.)

Which character – as performed by Scott Horton – was your favorite?

It was expertly performed.... no issues

If you could give Fool's Errand: Time to End the War in Afghanistan a new subtitle, what would it be?

The Truth About who is Running our Foreign Policy

Any additional comments?

A book for anyone with any level of knowledge on Afghanistan

Relentless and fascinating.

The audiobook is an excellent format. You need to hear Scott Horton’s earnest voice.
This book covers every angle of the war in Afghanistan and will leave no doubt that it is not only pointless it is an atrocity. The facts come fast and heavy but at no time did I feel jaded or overly saturated by details. The heartbreaking truth of demolished families and lives will hit you right between the eyes.
By no means anti-American, Scott is clearly showing where the will of the people and logic part ways for the will of big military and big oil.
Fully recommended and I will be listening again.

I learned so much.

Scott has been doing the same thing for over a decade and he’s gotten so good. Go back and listen to his show on YouTube. The man kept the same beat and never misses a beat. He’s going to ask and answer all the right questions about why the war in Afghanistan happened, all the filthy nonsense that’s gone on, and why it needs to end now.

Sobering Must-Read

For anyone looking to understand what is going on in Afghanistan, Fool’s Errand by Scott Horton is a must-read. You’ll find no cartoonish depictions here like we get too often in the mainstream. Rather, Horton makes a compelling case that the US intervention (invasion) of Afghanistan amounts to nothing more than colonial imperialism on a people who have historically never submitted to any foreign power. The US is fighting petty wars for the worst kind of people and installing a police state reign of terror on people who have nothing to do with us - not to mention the numerous war crimes committed by western forces. What’s worse, the huge cost of money, resources, time, and human lives over 17 years has made no sustainable change to that society. It’s all been for nothing.

Scott Horton exposes this and more. Whether or not you’ve supported the war, Fool’s Errand is enlightening and should not be passed up by anyone looking to be informed.

A thorough history of the US Afghan war

The author did a good job narrating his book. I really enjoyed learning about the history of America's longest war. Horton covers the war from beginning through to Trump showing the deceit of the war planners and their goal for an endless war. I really liked this book.

Best book on America’s longest running war

I laughed a bit, damn near cried several times, but most of all I gained insight into the quagmire that is America’s longest running war. Buy, borrow or steal this book...you won’t regret it!

The Definitive Case

If you support the war in Afghanistan, you have to read this book. No expert who supports the war can be taken seriously until they have addressed every single point in this book.
