Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. It has been acknowledged for centuries as the cornerstone of spiritual awakening in all traditions of Eastern thought. In the West, however, it is still a relatively unrecognized concept for living. The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment.

This book is about “changing your habits". It is designed to trigger introspection and an inward evaluation that can trigger action to improve your personality, behavior, attitudes, communication skills, demeanor, and overall habits. Face your fears, and do it, anyway. According to Paolo Coelho, “The fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself,” and Eleanor Roosevelt adds, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.”

Publisher's Summary
Learn to focus more deeply and intentionally!
In this world, in this 21st century, it is becoming harder and harder to stay focused. Distractions have increased, and technology and commercial advertising have not helped us much. We find ourselves in a constant battle between shifting our attention and allowing ourselves to be "caught" by the things of the moment. Where is the balance? How can we choose what we want to pay attention to? This is exactly the theme of this elaborate book. You will learn, for instance:
- How social media, devices, and other technology have influenced our attention span
- The value of paying attention to something or someone specifically
- The definition and benefits of deep focus
- How disorders such as ADD, autism, and schizophrenia are related to the ability to concentrate
- A list of external and internal distractions you need to deal with in life to keep your eyes on your target
- Specific tips and exercises to help you increase your attention span and train your brain
- Different types of attention, all with their own pros and cons, and how to balance them out to reach optimal happiness and success
- Thoughts on creativity, the "bigger picture", and tunnel vision

There is nothing earth-shattering new here, but nothing off the wall either. If you are looking for deep psychological explanations for improving you focus, that is not what this book is about. But if you are looking for a short list of helpful suggestions, you will probably find this book to be of help. It's a very quick listen. I heard it in a single sitting.

Helpful list and tips
This book had a good amount of exercises that I plan on trying. I really hope that the ones mention would help me in my chosen field. I will be reading more self-help books regarding memory retention and concentration. I know that the main problem why it takes me about 5 hours to study things is that my concentration falters off more often than the actual studying. I know that if I have the right mindset and concentrate enough, I could possibly finish studying in an hour or two.

The first few chapters were clear and insightful enough to give the book 5 stars. The book is organized into chapters. These effective strategies and exercises will improve your learning. You'll be excited to see your productivity and efficiency increase dramatically allowing you to laser in on tasks. I've been studying the topic of focus rather intently recently, trying to find new thinking in the area. This book breaks training down into easy-to-understand modules. It starts from the very beginning of the science of concentration and how to improve it, so you can get great results - and be less distracted!
