Publisher's summary

The detective is losing his mind. Suffering from a panic disorder that has him haunting emergency rooms in rising waves of crisis, the detective begins to lose his grip - on his relationship with his fiery young lover, on his ability to work, on his health. When he receives a case involving a honeymooner found dead in a hotel bathtub, the detective's fragile mind finally cracks. He creates an increasingly chaotic conversation with the deceased, transforming her into a pure and beautiful heroine who could have saved him had she lived. A new spin on the murder mystery, Fly Me to the Moon is an unsettling exploration of anxiety, death, and illusion.

What was that?

This short audiobook is a puzzle. It’s either completely over my head or it’s really just a stream of consciousness monologue by a not-so-hard boiled cop who has extreme anxiety attacks. Just as I thought it was going to start getting interesting, the story ended.

Was the cop actually the murderer he was searching for- either actually or metaphorically? And what about his strange obsession with the murder victim, to whom he addresses all of his thoughts? Or what about the cop’s mistreated girlfriend? I guess we’ll never know. And yet, I did enjoy it after a fashion.
