Publisher's Summary

A string of suicides. A community in terror. And a chilling conspiracy only DI Amy Winter can crack.

A wave of apparent suicides hits a string of seaside resorts, but when a police officer is named as the latest to die, DI Amy Winter suspects there may be more than mere coincidence to these tragic deaths. But what dark motive could cause someone to throw themselves into the cold depths of the North Sea?

Someone in the community knows more than they are letting on, but Amy’s questions are met with resistance. A group of mysterious teenagers might hold the key, but why are they so afraid to talk? Meanwhile, after the release from prison of her serial killer mother, Amy is fighting her own demons.

In her toughest investigation yet, Amy must confront her dark past if she is to put an end to the carnage. What secret is so terrible that it’s worth killing a police officer for? Amy needs to find the answer, before the sea washes up any more bodies.

This is the last time

I've been through all the titles in the series, but this is the last. I'm never a fan this type "damaged" detective. There is NO possible way any part of this story would actually happen.

Its ridiculous that I'm supposed to believe her backstory with the serial killer parents. I can ignore those parts. I stuck with it the entire way. It wasn't bad until the few chapters. That's when this took a hard turn into crazy land. There isn't a way to fully explain without giving it away.

Now the first turn, ok, not probable. Tried to keep going and just went swinging for the fences on the crazy. Never rolled my eyes that many times in 4 hours before.

If you don't care about the probability thing you might like it

Absolutely Fantastic!

Narrator does a great job! FINALLY, a book that ACTUALLY keeps you wondering throughout the entire book!!🥳 Nearly every book in this type of genre that I have read-"CLAIMS" to be the best at keeping you at the edge of your seat or has twists and turns that you will never see coming. (Which let's be honest, 80% of those books are slow, until the end. With those 'big reveals'... being a let down because we figured out the ending before we were halfway through the book!😉) Also, I don't understand how nearly every author has won an award of some kind!? It will say "award winning [___]author "or some version of that. Makes it seem like they hand out these awards like candy on Halloween 🤷‍♀️ HOWEVER, THIS BOOK WOULD DESERVE ONE OF THOSE 'CANDIES.' You might guess one but you will not guess everything in the ending of this book. For once, there is quite a bit going on. It would be wonderful if more authors would do this!!! The author did a fantastic job with this book on all levels. The actual plot line may not be better than the other books in the series but the unfolding, the delivery and the more complex ending (not just having a typical simple ending) how it was laid out ...definitely made this book my favorite above all of them.

Disappointing

I have enjoyed all of Mitchell's books until now. I made myself continue to listen, up to chapter 21, hoping the story would get better but this book is down right boring. I marked as finished and I'm not sure I'll ever go back to this one and try it again. I have quite an Audible library and have never quit a book until this one. Very disappointed. I understand, 'introducing characters', but at 21 chapters, I was still waiting for the story to take off.I would not recommend.

Very good addition to the series.

Really enjoyed the latest in the Amy Winter series. Noticing that Lillian is taking an incredibly smaller role in each book which is what set the series apart from others.

Love the whole series

I have listened to the whole D I Amy Winters series and have absolutely loved every single book. I can listen to a book in 2 days because I pop my ear buds in every chance I get!
I love how Caroline's crime thrillers are character driven and not heavy on police procedure and police jargon. There are solid, well thought out and clever plots for each book and believable, real characters that you end up rooting for or despising!
The narrator for these books is the perfect choice. Her voice is so well suited to this genre and she puts the characters and mood across so well.
I can't wait for the next installment as the twist at the end of this book has got me desperate to find out what is going to happen in Amy's life next!

Great read!

As always a show stopper, I feel like I’m going to miss any winter until the next chapter. Great characters that draw you in and make you want to get to know them.

*This Time it’s Personal*

In this instalment and hopefully there will be more in this series. A call that DCI Donavon didn’t take comes with a heavy price. The aftermath of the call sees him returning back to Clacton his old stomping ground with his old team. He brings DI Amy Winter and her team which he now overseas and the victim is one of their own.

There are things that Amy sees which mean keeping her DCI out of the loop. As the story progresses the case is about to take a shocking turn, if Amy is wrong there will be serious repercussions…. Who is behind the murder of one of their own? Will Amy get to the truth and Amy has a secret of her own….

Amy and the team go to Clacton

The 4th outing for DI Amy Winter and her team sees them travelling to Clacton-on-Sea (Donovan's previous workplace) to investigate some suspicious 'suicides'.

This series goes from strength to strength. Caroline has a great writing style and this book had me gripped from the start, with enough twists to tie me in knots! I love Amy and her team, and in this book we got to know each of them a little more. We also learned more about Amy's family. Can't wait for the next one!

I enjoyed the narration by Elizabeth Knowelden.

Great Story but wrong Narrator

I have enjoyed all of this series - I have read them all and only listened to this one. Unfortunately I thought this person's voice was totally wrong for this book - not enough depth of emotion or range for characters.

I did feel a couple of issues with some characters were not fully addressed at the end - maybe in the next book.
