Publisher's summary

Slated for execution, shape-shifting assassin Dahlia Nite flees her world to hide in the human realm. As payment for the shelter they unknowingly provide, Dahlia dedicates herself to protecting humans from what truly lives in the shadows. Moving from town to town, she hunts the creatures that threaten an unsuspecting human race, burying the truth that could destroy them all.

But the shadows are shifting. The lies are adding up. When Sentinel City is threatened by a series of bizarre brutal murders, light is shed on what should never be seen. The secrets that have kept humanity in the dark for centuries are in danger of being exposed.

Wrestling with a lifetime of her own deceptions, Dahlia investigates the killings while simultaneously working to conceal their circumstances. But with each new murder, the little bit of peace she has found in this world begins to crumble. Each new clue leads her to the one place she thought to never go again: home.

Flash Point is the first audiobook in the Nite Fire series.

My Next Serial-Obsession!

I’ve been looking for my next serial obsession, and I think I just found it! Nite Fire: Flash Point took me on a roller coaster ride through a new world and mystery. Dahlia Nite, hiding from her own race, now lives in the human world as a protector of sorts. A new murder has her attention, providing pieces to a puzzle Dahlia never saw coming, and brings up even more questions that she had never ventured to ask. As the world of this new series begins to take shape and readers are drawn deeper into the life of Dahlia Nite, you’ll be led deep into the mystery surrounding and threatening the existence of more than just one race. Nite Fire: Flash Point will take you down the rabbit hole and out the other side to what I’m hoping will be a just as exciting and riveting ride into the next book.

Entertaining

A well written story filled with well written characters that will grab your attention and keep it throughout the entire story. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life and kept my attention.

I received an ARC of this audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I’m excited book 2 is already out so I can continue to listen! Cassandra King was the perfect narrator for Dahlia. It was like listening to a play. Her many different voices for everybody was perfect. I’m excited to continue!

Entertaining Urban Fantasy

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

As a fan of urban fantasy and mystery books, the blurb on this book intrigued me. A strong no BS female protagonist? Check. A police procedural with interesting murders (she's an arson investigator). Double Check. She's a shapeshifter trying to fit in and protect humans (after being an assassin!). Wow. Yes, please. Plus her personal life is messy. Now you're just over the top.

The character of Dalia is so well developed that you empathize with her (fear for her) as she tries to hide the truth of who she really is from her police partners. Then you understand when she engages (again) with her former lover who is absolutely wrong for her but is a habit she can't shake because in the moment... Well, in the moment, who is really thinking clearly?? And the dialogue just crackles. And you laugh as she shows up the guys at the gym.

The backstory/world building which resulted in Dalia's fall from grace and ending up on Earth was well drawn out and helped you understand her need to protect humans (and her current home). I enjoyed how her dragon lineage helped her investigate arson (fire breather - get it?) and helped her cover up any possible other wordly connections to the crimes.

The narrator, Cassandra King, was phenomal. She has an excitement in her voice which pulls you into the story as the action ramps up. She did different voices for the various characters, allowing the listener to easily differentiate them. There were no audio issues.

Caught in the line of fire

Our heroine is an exile trying to blend into our world. But after a while, hiding becomes a chore, so she returns to the closest thing she has to a home now. And that is when her past catches up with her.

This is book one of the series, so a good place to start.

This is an urban fantasy story with all kinds of beasties. The story is well written, easy to read and even easier to listen to. The characters are well done and diverse providing an interesting array of pieces on the board. The setting is also well done and includes lots of intriguing details that are revealed throughout the story. The plot is engaging and includes plenty of twists and turns so you are never quite sure what is going on. Overall, it was a long, but very enjoyable story and I look forward to the next book.

Highly recommended.

This review is based on the audio book version. The narration was very well done, clear and well paced, making it easy to listen to.

I received n ARC from StoryOrigin for review purposes.

I didn't think I was going to like this

I decided to give it a try & I am glad Il did. I loved it. Dahlia is a super cool badass! I enjoy her personality & demeanor. She is smart and dangerous. Her escape from her world was lucky and she healed and began a quest. The story is full of action, drama & some humor. The author did a great job. Definite thumbs up for the narrator. I recommend this book!

A brilliant paranormal thriller-horror novel

I expected this book to be another okay paranormal action book, like many others. What I got was so much better. This is a paranormal thriller-horror novel, in the style of Laurel K Hamilton’s Anita Blake novels and Jim Butchers Dresden files. It’s dark, gritty and underlying fascinating. It’s an page turner where you both can’t stop reading, and at the same time you are afraid to read on. It’s brilliantly written, with deeply developed characters, and a female antagonist who are changed by the things she experiences. For a while, it will have you looking at shadows wondering if something are hiding in them, and if the world are what we think it is, or something more.
The narrator of the Audio version is fantastic. It can’t have been easy to preform this book but Cassandra King does it anyway, and brilliantly.
The book can be read as a stand alone, even though it’s part of a series, but I think that once you get started, you are going to want to read/listen to the others as well. This is a book suitable for the ages 18+
