Publisher's Summary

When her life is threatened, keeping her safe is the most important job he'll ever have.

Smith: When my old partner calls in a favor, I agree to keep an eye on his baby sister while she's in town. I owe him my life, so keeping her safe is the least I can do. But once I see her, I find I want to do way more than just protect her.

Mellie: I've been living in fear, but I'm content with my secluded lifestyle and my cat...at least that's what I tell myself. So when a grandfather I've never met leaves me an abandoned house, I have no choice. I set out on a journey I never wanted to take and meet a man determined to tear down the walls around my heart, all while shielding me from danger.

This romantic suspense is the first in a series of stand-alones and contains sensitive topics and adult situations.

What a ride!

In search of a thriller with a lot of romance? Look no further, Anna Brooks has written this series based in Pleasant Valley, and this first book, Fixing Fate will fill the bill. While we meet many characters in this story, this one is based on Mellie. She is trying to recover from an attack that happened when she was in high school, but fear is always gripping her. When she decides to renovate a home she inherited, her brother Jay's friend, Smith comes to help her out. If love at first sight is real, you can feel it happening right then. With Mellie's attacker now out of jail and on the loose, she is in need of protection and Smith is there to keep her safe. Will her fears become a reality? Brooks has woven this tale of suspense with so many intricate morsels, it becomes hard to know who to trust and if Smith will be able to protect her. This story of survival and healing will capture your interest from the first chapter and keep you entranced until the very end.

Narration by Ava Erickson and Jacob Morgan is amazing. Their interpretation of this book is spot on and exactly as I would imagine each of the characters to be. There is so much emotional turmoil, fear and love that even with the vast array of emotions, the performances were so believable, you could see the tears, feel the love and enjoy the happily ever after.

It was okay-

So the story isn't bad; both narrators actually made the story come to life but I dont think I would've been as invested in the characters if it wasn't for them. Ava and Jacob are FANTASTIC!! As far as the story goes, it does have a HEA but that's not even the best part; it was the progression of the main characters physical connection. Outside of that; hmm...It was just alright.

Love love love

A story filled bite your nails intensity, love that fills your soul, action that keeps you guessing and heat that warms your cockles.

Anna Brooks is a new author to me and I was so pleasantly surprised. Although I felt like the subplot was teased a bit too much without any fulfillment, the main story was so perfect and I loved it so much.

Jacob Morgan and Ava Erickson are a great match. There were a few points that Jacob Morgan pulled away from the mic when he shouldn’t have and that was a bit awkward but it only happened 3 or 4 times and it really didn’t deter from the story, just pulled me out of the narration a bit. Other than that, everything was perfect.

I can’t wait to explore this author more.

good story

I actually read the last one off this series first and loved it. So now I'm starting from the beginning. I liked the story of Smith and Mellie. Good character development and lots of twists. Jacob Morgan did a great job. I'll continue to read/listen to the next in the series.

I actually cried listening to this book!

This book made me feel so many emotions that I don't even know. I felt impotent as to what the heroine went through that I even cried when she decided to go with the fucking guy. Sometimes I asked myself how someone so innocent and kind-hearted attracts such fucking assholes. At first I felt that she was overprotected, but then I realized that there was actually danger lurking around. Those guys needed to be taken care of before she could have a normal life without being scared out of her mind. Moreover, the author handled the trama well in my opinion. I felt that it was going at the right pace since both main characters started to build friendship and then a relationship together. I guess when you know what you want, you just know.

The performance was great for both Jacob and Ava, they are my favorite. They are my go-to when I'm looking for something new and different to listen to.
