Publisher's summary

It was supposed to be a place of healing - a place where doctors and nurses dedicated their lives to helping the sick and injured. Nobody wants to imagine a massacre at a hospital.

So at Newton Memorial, staff and patients are left frightened and stunned after the brutal shooting death of Dr. John Connor and an attending nurse. And when Dr. Jack Norris is asked by police to help with the investigation, he will stop at nothing to figure out how a peaceful patient was suddenly turned into the violent killer that took his best friend's life.

As an assistant under Dr. Ian Rupert, the hospital's research director, Dr. Connor could have had access to some secret information about groundbreaking drugs and procedures - knowledge possibly even worth killing or dying for. Could the patient that gunned down the doctor have known more than he let on?

In this captivating medical mystery, loyalties are tested and new frontiers of medical science are explored as hidden intentions come to light - and the truth behind a tragic killing is finally exposed.

Great Medical Mystery

Would you consider the audio edition of First Do No Harm to be better than the print version?

Not necessarily, sometimes you just want to read it yourself and imagine your own voices. I will probably end up reading the print version too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jack. Several reasons, but mainly because he was smarter than anyone else in my opinion.

What three words best describe Duane Berg’s voice?

I'm not sure. He wasn't bad, but I just had a hard time listening for really long periods.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it was too long.

Any additional comments?

For a medical mystery this is a really good book! The author is fantastic too!

My New Favorite Genre - Medical Murder Mystery

Where does First Do No Harm rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would rank this book very high on my list. It is a relatively quick read (listen) but that time is spent in near constant suspense. I've always enjoyed a good mystery and, although I don't watch a lot of TV, I do like medical dramas. This book expertly combined the two. The underlying, devious criminal plot in this book is something I would have never imagined but seems medically plausible and not all that far-fetched. This book has a lot of action and the characters feel fully developed. I would highly recommend this book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dr. Jack Norris of course. Who wouldn't want to be a brilliant, popular MD with a beautiful and loving wife? Dr. Jack conveys power without arrogance and is a very likeable character due to his compassion for those around him. It's easy to cheer for this guy. I like his witty dialogue with his colleagues, friends, and especially his spouse.

What about Duane Berg’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed the fact that he was able to bring emotion to the role without going overboard like so many audiobook performers. Good performances like this occur when the reader brings range and excitement to the passage without overwhelming the words on the page. Not an easy thing to do but I did feel Mr. Berg hit the mark here.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sometimes Bad Medicine Can Be Sinister . . .

Any additional comments?

Great book. Looking forward to reading (or listening to) what's next from Dr. L. Jan Eira.
