Missing Johanna Parker
Lisa Wingate is a favorite writer. Her books are a joy to the senses and wholesome as well. I had a hard time with Firefly Island in the audible version from the start, however. The narrator's odd enunciations of word patterns made it difficult for me to fully enjoy what is usually a feast of descriptive language. For example: "ooooold growthtrees, instead of "old-growth trees". I realized how much I missed Johanna Parker's beautiful reading of Lisa Wingate's other books.
My hope is that this narrator is a beginner and will improve with practice, but this book was made an exercise in trying not to miss the point.

LOVED THE STORY....but....
This was an excellent story, but it was very wordy! It's hard to explain, but there were parts that were very slow due to the fluff in thoughts and description of things. It was certainly inspirational but I don't think it was overdone in that department. Had there been an ounce more however, it would have ended the book for me. I just think that Lisa Wingate needs to add more suspense/action to her stories OR condense the hours of narration.
As for Meredith Orlow, I enjoyed her narration talents. One of my pet peeves is when narrators do a child's voice. So many do a terrible job of reflecting age of children but IMO Meredith Orlow does an extraordinary job in this story.
With all of that being said, I would still spend a credit on this book.

I love her books
However this book is not one of my favorites. It was long, drawn out and she left a lot of things inside the original story in unanswered .
But with that.... I do have to say I loved this series!

So sad it is over
The story of love and life and the variety of characters draws you in. There is mystery and a contrast of life and growth in people...so many thing to keep your attention. I love this author's details in her writing and this book it true to that as well.
