I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next. Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. Publisher's Summary
From New York Times best-selling author Keri Arthur comes a brand new series featuring heroine Emberly Pearson - a phoenix capable of taking on human form, and cursed with the ability to foresee death.
Emberly has spent a good number of her many lives trying to save humans. So when her prophetic dreams reveal the death of Sam, a man she once loved, she does everything in her power to prevent that from happening. But in saving his life, she gets more than she bargained for. Sam is working undercover for the Paranormal Investigations Team, and those who are trying to murder him are actually humans infected by a plague-like virus, the Crimson Death - a by-product of a failed government experiment that attempted to identify the enzymes that make vampires immortal. Now, all those infected must be eliminated.
But when Emberly's boss is murdered and his irreplaceable research stolen, she needs to find the guilty party before she goes down in flames.

Can't wait for book 2
Would you consider the audio edition of Fireborn to be better than the print version?
I did listen to the audio version. I am a big fan of Saskia Maarleveld.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fireborn?
I enjoyed the whole book as it was not your usual story. I liked that.
What does Saskia Maarleveld bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love her accent....and I just prefer audio while I work...makes work a pleasure. A narrator can make or break a book.....at least for me...I have some books in my audio collection that I have yet to listen to all the way through because the narration is boring. Ms Maarleveld does not bore me.
Any additional comments?
I do enjoy Kerry Arthur very much and have listened to pretty much all of her books....she did not disappoint with this one and I can't wait until Book 2.

Oh My GOD, she's such an idiot!
Any additional comments?
I've been reading for 30 years and I just can't stand reading about stupid women any more. The author writes about an extremely powerful creature but makes her an incompetent idiot. Then at the end she actually manages to defend herself. REALLY!? Now, she pulls out some quick thinking and power? How about the other 8 hours I've spent listening to this moron taking 2 minutes to react to anything.

Boring
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book to a friend. It was slow at times, left things unanswered and there was no real romance or mystery or really anything enjoyable.
What was most disappointing about Keri Arthur’s story?
I expected more mystery, deeper characters and a more interesting story/background about the Phoenix race. I think I expected too much.
What about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance did you like?
She did a great job with her characters. I enjoyed her performance.
Was Fireborn worth the listening time?
No, but I finished it because I kept hoping it would get better.
