Publisher's summary

The colonies of the Faustian Chain have gone dark.

No star freighters have come from the star cluster for many years. Captain Bill Gorman, a smuggler on the Fringe, is one of the few who know the truth. He’s personally battled the alien invaders who’ve overrun the human colonies of the Chain. He and his crew are faced with a choice: Will they fight the invaders, or will they run?

Story getting better

The story isn’t as predictable as the first and the characters are getting better. I like the direction the captains focus is heading.

Solid story with a masterful narrator.

Finished it in one day. I read the book , but Mark Boycott brings it to life. The advantage B.V. Larson has over his contemporaries is his ability to bring in new and novel characters and with them plot twist that keep you interested from beginning to end. I would recommend this to everyone that enjoys science fiction. I hope you like this book as much as I did.

Parasite Premise from ‘Stargate’ Tokra

Story premise could be a revival of worlds infected by a thinking, controlling culture of human riding parasites, without exotic engineering tech of ‘ancients’ to peak interest in young minds.

In this story, 3 flavours of human riding parasites battle for domination of galaxy

A bit too predictable

I count B.V. Larson as one of my top 3 SciFi Space Opera authors and seldom experience anything but full enjoyment in his series. With that said, while Star Runner Book 1 was again an interesting start of a new series, Book 2 was a bit of a letdown. All of the MCs continued to play their roles well but they were lacking in much depth. Even the Baron's back-stabbing ways had little intrigue to them.

I plan to purchase the next book in the series since it holds the promise of moving the story in a completely new direction and am hopeful that it proves to do so.

As to be expected, Mark Boyett's performance was well done.
