Publisher's Summary

The colonies of the Faustian Chain have gone dark.

No star freighters have come from the star cluster for many years. Captain Bill Gorman, a smuggler on the Fringe, is one of the few who know the truth. He’s personally battled the alien invaders who’ve overrun the human colonies of the Chain. He and his crew are faced with a choice: Will they fight the invaders, or will they run?

A bit too predictable

I count B.V. Larson as one of my top 3 SciFi Space Opera authors and seldom experience anything but full enjoyment in his series. With that said, while Star Runner Book 1 was again an interesting start of a new series, Book 2 was a bit of a letdown. All of the MCs continued to play their roles well but they were lacking in much depth. Even the Baron's back-stabbing ways had little intrigue to them.

I plan to purchase the next book in the series since it holds the promise of moving the story in a completely new direction and am hopeful that it proves to do so.

As to be expected, Mark Boyett's performance was well done.

Good Shtuff!

I wish the next one was out. My only complaint. A different style and tempo than undying mercenaries but still BV.

Bad story and just a repeat of the first book

I have been looking forward to this book but it was so bad that I stopped halfway thru. The first book was fun and new but this was a poor and boring storyline and just not to my liking.

losing track of the story

This is another exceptional book by BV Larson. The story is phenomenal but I didn't like that he lost track of it at times. A few things didn't match what we were previously told and that just bothers the heck out of my OCD. Other than that it's excellent.

Is it OK to use a slave army?

Protagonist Gorman is fighting a war he believes is just, problem is the soldiers don’t want to fight. That’s OK, just use soldiers enslaved by an alien parasite that forces them to fight. Gorman won’t let a parasite near himself, of course, but no problem killing off involuntary slaves off to fight his war.

Gorman is the good guy in this story.

Kudos to B.V. Larsen for approaching this topic and the deft way he handled the story. Still, the whole thing is so morally reprehensible it was hard for me to stomach.

Great addition to series

This sequel does not disappoint. It really sets up how bad the edge is getting, and how much humanity is in trouble.

I won't spoil the book, but worth the listen. Great story.

Better than reading a soup can label

If Undying Mercenaries is like fast food, then this series seems to be like bad school cafeteria food barely saved by ice cream. I've bought every book in his better known series so Larson is capable of better. With SF writers running towards Swords and Sorcery efforts the pickings are getting thin. I've tried 2 books in this series to be less than thrilled.

Another amazing addition to a new series.

loving this new series with the first two episodes, the new characters adding in this book have been amazing and I look forward to exploring them more with further books.

I struggle to like the character of Rose but not because of the writing, just because of how out of place she is. I feel this was intended and I do enjoy the addition.

Mark Boyett as usual is amazing, over half of my library is filled with his performances and I can't pick apart anything he does. The B V Larson and Mark combination is perfect and I really enjoy it.

Always a good listen.

The A Team are back and excellent as always. Just wish he’d write his books a bit quicker 😁👍🏻
