Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author L.B. Gilbert, a paranormal romance to sink your teeth into!

Invested with the powers of Mother Nature, four women have been charged with the almost impossible task of maintaining order in the supernatural world and - when the crimes are extreme - the human world as well.

Diana, a fire Elemental, is almost burned out. Alone in the world (save for her Elemental sisters), she takes satisfaction in punishing those who've strayed so far into the black they've disrupted the balance. But her contentment is increasingly short-lived as she struggles with the limitations of her ability. An Elemental can track murderers to the ends of the earth, but not before it's too late for their victims.

So when a child from a previous case goes missing, Diana is determined to find her. The only problem is, she may have to take on an entire coven of vampires to do it.

Great story with kick butt heroine

So I will start by saying at first I wasn't sure how I liked the voice of this audio book, but I am glad to say as it went on I did not mind it. It ended up working for this story.

The book is about the fire elemental who is trying to solve a case involving a missing childThere is always something going on and the book keeps you wanting to finish it. I started and finished it today and I can not say I'm disappointed at all, so I am really glad.

L.B. Gilbert did a great job and I am looking forward to what comes next, maybe air? :)

If you are looking for a book with a strong, kick butt, snarky female lead and a vampire this is for you!

A captivating and worthwhile read!

Diana is such a bada** strong independent woman! Heart her and her bada**ery so much!! Whoa... she hunts the bad guys and destroys them! Such a feisty chick!

Monster hunts... missing children...evil people... an addicting read full of action and adventure! Along the way she finds a partner and... falls in love!

I loved every word, every action, every adventure... so thrilling and captivating! Cannot wait to read the next book! I was sad, angry and happy at times (won't say anything else because spoilers!).

Full of family, Elementals, bad people, witches, vampires, love, secrets and suspense.

Perfect for readers of paranormal/fantasy romance.

I absolutely adored the narrator! She knocked those accents right out of the park!

Plenty of twists and turns

AUDIBLE

Diana is a fire elemental who works for Mother Nature to keep balance in the supernatural realm. Upon occasion she must hunt in the human realm in order to bring justice. When a young human child has gone missing for the second time, her sources send her to a vampire coven. There she meets Alec, a vampire academic who has learned to day walk. He pretty much forces himself into her investigation and as the case builds she acknowledges that he makes a pretty good side-kick.

I loved the dynamic between Diana and Alec. Although Alec is not your typical alpha hero, I liked the fact that he appreciated the talent and abilities of the woman he came to recognize as his mate. What started out as a struggle for dominance in the relationship was eventually worked out to a place where they knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses and yielded when necessary.

This is a fast paced story that has so many twists and turns that I never knew what to expect next. Listening to the audiobook I found myself constantly having to rewind due to the wealth of action that was taking place. The narrator was pleasant to listen to although I did struggle a time or two to discern which male character might be talking due to no significant inflection at that point of the reading. It was only a small matter and one I was able to easily overlook.

Glad I found L. B. Gilbert

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this audiobook to a friend. I was unfamiliar with this author until someone recommended them to me and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed listening to this book. I will spread the word so that others can enjoy it as much as I did.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fire?

One of the most memorable moments for me was when Diana introduced herself to the vampires. She made one heck of an entrance. Another of my favorite moments was when she confronted the vampire council. These are not moments to be missed. Diana is a smart, talented, badass protagonist with a snarky attitude. My favorite kind of girl.

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tanya Eby does a very good job of portraying these characters. They all have distinct voices that are fairly easy to distinguish.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Snarky, badass, elemental

An exciting story with a kick ass heroin

5++ Stars for Fire (The Elementals book one) by L. B. Gilbert
Genre: Paranormal, vampires, witches, Elementals, Romance, Suspence
Audience: YA, NA, Adults. Fans of Kim Harrison will love this book
Series: The Elementals
Disclaimer: I received the book for an honest review

Synopsis:
Diana has been a Fire elemental for about a decade when she meets Alec on a case. Children are missing and it looks like black magic is involved. Trusting is not easy for Diana, but she quickly realizes that Alec are just at eager to find the kidnapper as she is, so she accepts his help. Together they hunt, and learn to trust.

Audio notes:
This is the perfect book for audio. It has so many details that often get lost when you rush through reading it. With the audio you get to slow down for a bit and this book are perfect as a slow read. Tanya Eby has done an amazing job bringing the story to life. She was able to change her voice in small ways so the different characters stayed recognizable. It can be difficult narrating dialogue between male and female characters in a natural way, but Tanya Eby did a great job portraying them both.

Conclusion:
First, the book is a standalone and can be read as such, but are also part of a series. This is probably one of the best paranormal stories I have read since Kim Harrison's Hallow series. It has an awesome kick ass heroin and a sweet determined hero. In some ways the hero reminded me of a character from a reversed fan girl anime. In a totally charming way he comes of as a huge fan of the Heroin. He even admit it in the book. It was really fun reading a book where the normal roles of conduct was reversed. Here the hero is the support and the heroin is the one who saves everyone. I totally adore this. All in all I loved everything about the book and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Great listen

If you could sum up Fire in three words, what would they be?

Magic, action, snark

What other book might you compare Fire to and why?

Similar to the Mercy Thompson books by Patricia Briggs. Both are urban fantasy with magic, weres, and vampires. Both also have a badass female lead with a bit of a snarky attitude.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Diana introduces herself to the vampire coven, you get get a good picture of Diana in action and a look at how awkward (which is really quite endearing) Alec can be.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The conversations between Diana and Katie are very moving, poor little girl has had a very rough time in her short life.

Any additional comments?

Great book, can't recommend enough!

Snarky Strong Female Book

I loved this book. The narrator did a great job of delivering the snarky dialogue as well as doing multiple character voices. The book revolves around Diana a Fire Elemental as well as Alec a vampire. While they travel around trying to find a coven of black witches they bond. I enjoyed their relationship because they both were witty and they did not fight incessantly. I am not someone who gets choked up about a book, but the end of this book caught me off guard. If you are a crier I would suggest having Kleenex around. The book ends without a major cliff hanger, but has made me curious about the world and I want to know more. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of paranormal romance.

Elementals

This was a very good story. I loved learning a little bit about each elemental and this story was about Diana who is Fire. She is very strong and independent but Alec comes into the picture to help her and slowly breaks down her barrier. I can't wait to get the next book. Also, the narrator did a good job with the voices for each of the characters. I was gifted the audible version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
