Publisher's summary

In the gripping conclusion to the action-packed "standard bearer" of zombie series, the threat of death is given new life. Benny Imura and his friends have found the jet and Sanctuary - but neither is what they expected. Instead of a refuge, Sanctuary is a hospice, and the soldiers who flew the plane seem to be little more than bureaucrats who have given up hope for humanity's future. With Chong hovering between life and death, clinging to his humanity by a thread, Benny makes a startling discovery: a scientist may have discovered a cure for the zombie plague. Desperate to save Chong, Benny and his friends mount a search and rescue mission. But they're not the only ones on the hunt. The reapers are after the cure too, and they want to use it turn all the zombies into superfast shock troops - and wipe humanity off the face of the earth. In this riveting conclusion to the Rot & Ruin series, the battle to end all battles is just beginning.

So Sad to see it Go!

Read from March 14 to 23, 2015

Read/Listened for Fun (Audible/Library)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 3.75
Character Rating: 4.25

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Oh Benny so sad to see you go! Fire and Ash by Jonathan Maberry was a good ending to a great series!

Overall Thoughts:
1: Why did it have to end! I am going to miss little Benny Imura who ended up not so little and really a good man!
2: When a certain character is in the book--I get giddy. Which is awesome cause I was worried when reading another book then remember yeah he makes it!
3: The gals really kicked ass and have to say they were the true saviors of the day.
4: Those kids from book 1 are more grounded, well-thought, and observant than many of the adults. I could live in a world where they were our future.
5: Jonathan Maberry simply knows how to write a good story. *hat off to you sir*

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated by: Brian Hutchison /Length: 11 hrs and 53 mins / Publisher: Recorded Books

Brian really does a great job with this series. Through no fault of his own (blame Ray Porter) there was just one voice I was like---nooooooo! However, he still did a great job with it. I highly recommend this on audio!

Not a typical joe ledger story but still a good listen

I generally liked this series. Some of the teenaged angst dialogue in the middle of the apocalypse was hard to get through. I accept that it was written from a teenagers perspective but it seemed out of place in what I consider to be joe ledger’s world normally brought to me by ray porter. During each listen, I couldn’t help but feel someone else wrote this because the literary voice and the performance voice were so different from the other joe ledger books. That being said, it was not Mayberry’s best but he is one of the best so it was still entertaining. To the extent anyone cares what this Mayberry enthusiast thinks. Brian Hutchinson is very talented but I prefer ray porter.

Best book out of the series just a ok series

It took me awhile to get used to this narrator in the first two books he just had a monotone voice no real emotion that's what bothered me but in the last two books he did a little better maybe he had gotten into the books himself not sure but I really struggled the first book with him narrating. The books were okay they were written a little juvenile like calling each other and monkey banger and stupid stuff that teen boys would say to each other. The last book I thought was the best book out of all three and I couldn't wait for them to be over truthfully they weren't bad books they were decent not the best books I've ever read but not the worst either. I think it's more for a teen read. I gave the book about a three star.

Good Ending to the Series

I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars because for some reason the teenage angst bled through more in this book than in the last book. It was understandable but it made it difficult for me to get through at times.

Satisfying wrap up!

Great “Zom” story! Bit what else can you expect from my favorite author! I almost shrieked when i saw Joe Ledger as a character. So skillful the way Mayberry married all these stories to culminate in such a satisfying world. Bravo. Thanks Jonathan!

Samurai never Die

Nicks should have kept her sword in the final scene.. to symbolize the Samurai she had become. Just my two cents.. great series!!!!
