Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff, a book for those who want relief from always starting and never being done.

Jon Acuff, sought-after speaker and consultant, is the friend who always gives you great advice. With his self-deprecating humor and charm, he has won over hundreds of thousands of followers who come to him for both encouragement and a kick in the pants. Now, after showing you how to reboot your career in his New York Times best seller Do Over, Acuff shows chronic starters how to actually finish their goals in an age of bottomless distractions and endless opportunities.

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Drawing on his popular 30 Days of Hustle course, Acuff teaches listeners to short-circuit perfectionism and make it through to the end of a task. Whether it's by "choosing what to bomb" or "cutting a goal in half", he shows listeners how to move past "the day after perfect", get focused, and - finally - finish.

Perfect advice for getting things done.

This reminds book me of the story where the truck is stuck in the tunnel and a kid suggests letting a little bit of air out of the tires to free it.

By letting a little bit of air out of your tasks, you make them achievable. Once they're achievable, you get them done.

Finished it in 2 days!!!

Jon's whimsical style had me glued to my headset through two commutes and then could not stop and gave up my Friday night to finish it. The news is not new. He isn't making up new things but instead helps the reader to reevaluate the way they approached different issues and presents a fresh tweak. I've been following Jon on line for a short while but never read any of his books until now. I love his personality and honesty and quirky way he approaches life. I look forward to reading his other books. This one has challenged me in ways that I have had issues of being stuck in. There were so many times I wanted to quote him on Facebook but found there were too many good nuggets to do his message justice. So just read or listen to his dang book. It was a quick and fun read and challenged the crap out of me. Going to have to relisten to it to go back over his big ideas. Thanks Jon. Loved it.

Read with a friend.

There are lots of great principle in this book that I won't stick to with accountability. There are tons of things we'll all finish with the prospective and perseverance of a friend.

love(really like him) this guys

it was like a warm cup of hot chocolate with the little marshmallows. it made me think, made me feel, and made me a better person. I did manage to finish it. I really like the way Acuff and so much more to his audio books. As a dyslexic reader(well actually listener) I truly appreciate anyone that puts so much effort into an audiobook. I am going to be reading(listen:) it again to write down all of the good ideas. I usually only do this with books I know have a lot of good information in them. thanks for all the helpful insight and keep up the awesome writing. -hunter

I would pay full price for this book.

If I have one flaw in this world it’s procrastination. I’ve watched every YouTube, read every blog, etc. nothing seems to seem applicable.

However, this book is FULL of great tips and truth. Spoken from one of us, a fellow procrastinator. Well worth the money and a no brained if it’s an Audible credit!

More subdued

Interesting... his book Start had a lot more enthusiasm and joking. This one was a lot more somber. It also didn’t seem to go as deep. But it was good. Glad I listened.

Entertaining

I listened to Finish through audible. I thoroughly enjoyed listening and found it to be surprisingly entertaining and funny. Maybe it’s because he speaks so accurately of MY own struggles with perfectionism...? A lot of other personal development books make me feel even more like a failure, as if my own perfectionism doesn’t already? Then throw in a book designed to motivate yet leaves you feeling weary and under accomplished! It’s not a good mixture with my personality! This book has allowed me to look past my inability to finish a BIG goal, find the reasons I’ve struggled and move forward with a new way of looking at my goals!

I have already recommended this book to several of my friends who are in my same field of business and hope they read it to free themselves of the perfectionism mindset! Thanks for a great book that doesn’t ‘feel’ like a personal development book!
