Publisher's summary

When Joel became a priest of the new god Finder, he knew it meant forfeiting the honor and security of his position as a master bard. Now his freedom and his very life are at stake as powers of evil embroil the priests of Finder in a struggle against a plot to resurrect the dead god Bane.

With his only allies the young freedom fighter Holly Harrowslough, the mysterious winged woman Jas, and the aging priest Jedidiah, Joel embarks on a mission to recover the Hand of Bane. His quest leads him from the Realms all the way to the extra-planar city of Sigil. There Joel must rely on all his courage, wisdom, and strength to thwart the return of Bane the Tyrant and rescue the god Finder from imminent death.

Finder's Bane is the 15th in an open-ended series of novels focusing on the Harpers, the secret organization for Good in the Forgotten Realms fantasy world.

Book was good. Narrator, not so much.

Enjoyed the story and content but the narrator needs to study word pronunciation. She mispronounced so many words that it was distracting from the story.

Solid...

Good forgotten realms. Solid characters and story. The narrator wasn't annoying like other books. Worth a read.

Not as Good as the Finder's Stone Trilogy

What did you like best about Finder's Bane? What did you like least?

I enjoyed getting a little follow-up on Finder and the few mentions from the previous series (Finder's Stone). The story at the end also tied back nicely. The worst part was the secondary characters. They were never really hatched out but kept showing up... but you really didn't know why or at least know more about them so you would care.

Characters like Jas could have been so much better if we knew more about her and the motives behind her actions. Same with the Bane-Litch.

The story really didn't start until Chapter 6. Honestly, there was some okay information but I didn't feel it took off and made me want to keep reading until that point.

If you’ve listened to books by Jeff Grubb and Kate Novak before, how does this one compare?

I read the other Finder's Stone trilogy (which I would probably rate my favorite of the realms series. It was a really good story based series. I am also a huge Drizzt fan but those tend to be more action oriented books. Sadly, this was my least favorite of my Grubb/Novak books because the side characters felt like they were just fillers.

Which character – as performed by Nicole Greevy – was your favorite?

Jebidiah (definitely spelled wrong) was my favorite once you get to a certain point in the book. Joel was also very good.

Did Finder's Bane inspire you to do anything?

Not this time. I looked at the other two books in the series and it was interesting that the series seems to talk religion/gods, but I couldn't do it with learning new characters, etc.

Any additional comments?

I wouldn't recommend it but if you can get the cliff notes or something it is a nice follow-up/tie in from the Finder's Stone trilogy.
