Publisher's Summary

I escaped. My name is Flora Dane, and I was kidnapped from a beach on spring break. I spent 472 days with my captor before I was found. I survived. And I've spent the last five years trying to reacquaint myself with the rhythms of my life. But everything is different.

My relationships are fractured. I've had to learn how to protect myself, how to live in this dangerous new world. I'm reckless. I know that there are other predators out there, and I'll do anything to stop them. Now I've killed a man who I suspect may be involved in another girl's disappearance.

Detective D. D. Warren doesn't trust me. She doesn't know whether I am a victim or a vigilante. Sometimes neither do I. But all she needs to know is that I can help. And that I'll put myself in danger again if I need to. Because the only thing that's important is to find her.

Sleazy

I enjoy Lisa Gardner and her lady detective. This one is gripping but you need to know that it is pretty sleazy and sends you off for a shower more than once. The narration is utterly appropriate and easy to get on with.

At times this book becomes a bit confusing in terms of who is who and I did re listen to a few parts.

The story is largely of a woman who has been 'messed up' by having been held hostage. As far as I can work out, she has some affection for her previous captor, in the way of a psychological condition. He sounds ghastly. I'm avoiding a plot spoiler here but she then sets about putting all that to rights as a sort of vigilante. Of course she ends up being held hostage again and the patterns are similar to her past...but why?

Definitely not for young ears. She is abused.

This book has not gone into my top ten list but was not time wasted.

Quite dark and kept me guessing

Good that I enjoyed listening to. The description of the victims situation really does make you feel as though you are there and suffering with them. Gave me a shudder...in a good way.

Ridiculous storyline

Started off so well but lost the plot in the middle & the ending is totally unbelievable.
I’ve heard of bad luck but the victim had her share as well as everyone else’s.
Story read very well so I stuck with it but it was hard work.
I know this got good reviews but sadly not for me.

Wanted it to end :(

Some other reviewers loved this book but I couldn't wait for it to end, this was the first book I found disappointing throughout. There were suspenseful parts but I honestly didn't enjoy most of it.

Good Story Spoilt

The story was good, and kept me interested. It was spoilt however by the recording skipping and missing in places.

I would look for more books by the same author

Captivating

Hearing a story both in the first person and the third at the same time is unusual and takes some getting used to but makes for an extremely well rounded story.

Easy listen with some thrill

Not bad, a good listen. Story felt a little predictable and amateur.

Kept me interested though. Will try more by the author.

Disappointed

Have read other titles by same author which I have enjoyed.
This story did not feel to have any substance and I felt like I was reading a book from year seven high school. The narration was also a disappointment.

Gripping story

Feel a little guilty enjoying such a dark thriller. Well written with enough twists to keep you guessing.
