Publisher's summary

Two thugs. One innocent woman. And one vicious frickin' werewolf.

Meet George and Lou, thugs for hire. The kind of intimidating-yet-friendly guys who will break your thumbs, but be polite about it.

Their latest assignment is to drive across Florida to deliver some precious cargo to a crime lord. The cargo: a man in a cage. Though Ivan seems perfectly human, they're warned that he is, in fact, a bloodthirsty werewolf.

George and Lou don't believe in the supernatural, but even if they did, it's daytime, and tonight isn't the full moon. Their instructions are straightforward: Do not open the cage. Do not reach into the cage. Do not throw anything into the cage. And they don't.

Unfortunately, Ivan doesn't play by the usual werewolf rules, and the thugs find themselves suddenly responsible for a ferocious escaped beast. One who can transform at will. One who enjoys killing in human form as much as he enjoys killing as a monster.

If George and Lou want to save their careers, dozens of people, and their own lives, they need to recapture him. Because Ivan the werewolf is in the mood for a murder spree....

From Jeff Strand, the three-time Bram Stoker Award nominated author of Pressure, comes 75,000 words of action-packed, blood-soaked werewolf terror!

HE DIDN'T OUTSMART US

YOU OUT DUMBED HIM
Witty intellectual humor coming out of the mouths of mobster soldiers and a smart mouth werewolf that will not shut up, what's not to like? The first eight chapters are full of LOL moments. Beware, that even though the humor continues throughout the rest of the book, starting with chapter 9 the story goes to the dark side fast. I was laughing, having a good time and than wham, evil raises his ugly head. I was entertained throughout the entire book, but the weak stomached should not listen.

Great book - I was surprised.

I went outside of my normal genre (I am just not into vampires, werewolves, etc) but I was desperate for a good listen while waiting for a few of my pre-orders to be released.

I am not the kind of listener that has the patience to listen to a book for a hour or two in order to get into it. You really need to get me from the get go. This book did that.

I am also not a LOL kind of person. I was laying in bed last night listening to the book for a few minutes before I fell asleep. I got to a certain point and simply busted out laughing. I laughed so hard I woke my husband up from a sound sleep. He asked what was so funny. I replied, Oh just a werewolf book". He gave me a look and went back to sleep.

It had a good mix of horror and a pleasantly surprising amount of my type of humor. This is not a combination I usually find. I just purchased book 2 and am off to listen to it now. It was well worth the credit.

Thoroughly Enjoyable!

Fun, exciting story that made me think of the Dortmunder crew of Donald E. Westlake fame. I was sorry to hear the story end. Great characters, action and suspense. Excellent narration. I have to say that the audio version was even better than the print. Highly recommended even if, like me, you aren’t into werewolves. This isn’t about a sexy man-dog waiting for the next full moon. It’s about a complete psycho and… well just get it and listen. I certainly will again.

genuinely fun and comedic horror listen

I imagine Jeff Strand's elevator pitch for Wolf Hunt being along the lines of 'The Sopranos Meet The Wolfman.' If this intrigues you, then it's really about all that needs to be said of Strand's funny, bloody werewolf romp. Frankly, it's all I would have needed to be hooked straightaway. If this does not intrigue you, then I'm afraid I can't help you.

George and Lou are not exactly made guys, and deny even being mobsters at all, but they are clearly some well-connected thugs who have little problem breaking thumbs over debts owed to their bosses. They're tasked with transporting a bad dude named Ivan across Florida to a crime lord, with Ivan locked in a cage. Strand sets up his story in a fun way, with a lot of dispute over Ivan's credentials as a werewolf and plenty of is-he or isn't-he back and forth (George and Lou aren't buying it, and Ivan has fun stringing them along). Things quickly go south, and after saving and accidentally kidnapping Michelle, the thugs are in a race to stop Ivan before he can wreak all kinds of carnage across the Sunshine State.

Strand does a beautiful job balancing wit with werewolf violence, and one early scene in particular stands out as being a gruesomely effective showcase to Ivan's psychopathy, while also solidifying the bloody courtship between he and George. Although Wolf Hunt has a number of gory instances, there's a certain lightness to the work as a whole thanks to a lot of humorous banter and a handful of characters that are actually fun to spend seven hours with.

Besides Stand's quirkiness, a lot of this fun is owed to narrator Scott Thomas, who seems to be enjoying himself quite a bit and effortlessly brings the material to life. He provides each character with a distinct voice and speech pattern, which makes it easy to discern who is saying what during stretches of dialogue, and keeps the listen fresh throughout. Thomas hits all the right notes and delivers an excellent performance. The production values are fine, too, and Thomas' work comes through without a hitch.

If you're looking for a genuinely fun and comedic horror listen, Wolf Hunt definitely stands out from the pack.

An excellent werewolf horror novel

There is a lot of horror and gore, but I knew that going into it. Ivan is about as sick as it gets, so I suggest not letting young kids listen to it without listening to it first. That being said, it's not the goriest thing out there by far, and it did have a nice amount of comedy.

The humor was very well-done, George and Lou were funny and likable without being too heroic, Ivan was clever and psychotic, and the pacing was excellent. I didn't think there was anything missing in the story or anything there that shouldn't have been. It was definitely unique and one of the best I've read in the horror genre

The narrator did a great job with all the voices. I never had to wonder who was talking, the reactions were reasonable, and the female voices weren't silly. With humor, timing and emphasis is very important, and Scott Thomas excelled at that.

Overall, I thought it was well-written and well-narrated and I would be happy to listen to other books by both the author and narrator.

Meet The Real Big, Bad, Wolf

I count on Audible reviewer Kim Venatries for direction in the Horror genre, and she certainly came through for me with her 5 star recommendation of "Wolf Hunt" by Jeff Strand.

A sociopath werewolf meets his match when two guys, who are no strangers to crime, are hired to transport our supernatural creature cross-country in a van. Add an innocent bystander, and the party begins.

Our affection grows for these two nutcases who are no match for the wild and crazy werewolf. This novel is violent and irreverent, yet somehow hilarious.

I think you would shelf this book somewhere between authors Moore and Butcher in the library of your mind.

Scott Thomas was a great choice for narrator, and could not have done a better job.

Fun!

I'm normally not keen on werewolf stories, but I gave Wolf Hunt a try because I recently listened to another title written by Jeff Strand and narrated by Scott Thomas, and I was very impressed.

Ivan, the werewolf, is ruthless and brutal and there are plenty of bloody and gory scenes that horror lovers will enjoy. Moreover, there is something oddly seductive about Ivan and his psychopathy, but I attribute that factor to the outstanding performance by Scott Thomas. Lou and George are really funny characters too, and they sound especially sleazy in the narration which is highly entertaining. I have to say that I've become a big fan of Scott Thomas, because he is just so talented. I can't even imagine myself reading a physical copy of Wolf Hunt because this performance is truly evocative.

A laugh out loud gory horror!!!

This rocked!!! I absolutely never expected this to be such a laugh out loud book! Despite the psychopath werewolf and gory bits, I laughed so much while listening to this.

So the basic premise of the story is that George and Lou are the best around at what they do. These thugs are hired to deliver a certain cargo to a crime lord, one you wouldn't want to mess with. They take the job figuring that it would be easy money. They are told that they are delivering a person but "Though Ivan seems perfectly human, they’re warned that he is, in fact, a bloodthirsty werewolf". Of course, the guys thinks it's bull. They think that Ivan must be loony but they also think that if it was true, it's not even a full moon so there's no way that he could change. Well, whatever could go wrong, does so and the guys are responsible for letting a physco werewolf loose! One who loves killing humans, both in human form himself or wolf form, sometimes even a mixture of both. How are they going to recapture Ivan before his killing spree gets worse?

I loved George and Lou. They are thugs but "The kind of intimidating-yet-friendly guys who will break your thumbs, but be polite about it." They may be tough but they also reminded me of the guys from Home Alone. They had such a fun way about their interactions and they way they are together that they were often times hilarious with their quips!!! I haven't laughed so much at such a gory book!

The plot of this is fast paced, intense and nail biting. Ivan is truly terrifying because he is a total physco and a serial killer. He relishes in the killing and kills for the fun of it. The bit with the mother was so heartbreaking!! George and Lou may be thugs, but they also have heart! This author has managed to add his own stamp on the werewolf genre and he is one I will definitely check out.

Anyway, I absolutely loved this. I flew through the audio and didn't want it to end, (please tell me we will see more from George and Lou!!!!) While the book wrapped up nicely, it is open ended as well and we need to see more from this world! Amazing characters, amazing plot and amazing writing!!! I can't recommend this enough.

Scott Thomas was phenomenal in his performance of both George and Lou, and Ivan. He really made me love the two guys and loathe Ivan. He gave me chills when he read Ivan because it almost felt like you could feel the evil coming off him. He totally nailed the story!!

Bloody Effin' Fun! A great Horror audiobook!

Jeff Strand has a book that's perfect for audio, and it is WOLF HUNT. Narrator Scott Thomas' performance enhances this extremely.

This isn't a Young Adult book. It is a nasty, blood soaked, bone-crunching, black-humor-filled story.

Two mob thumb-breakers are tasked with trekking a man in a cage for a short 5-hour jaunt. Rumor is that this man is a werewolf. Is it a mind game?

Give WOLF HUNT a listen. There is a WOLF HUNT 2, but sadly it isn't available in audiobook yet.

Note: There is a very strong violence-against-dogs scene in here. It is integral to the story, but if that bothers you, don't read this.

Wow this was impressive!

pleasantly surprised. Not your normal "wolf" hint hint book. I like the character play of the two leads. I also liked the fact that this was "light" horror with humor & good character development. bad guys with morals & loyalty. Got to love it.
